I became a HUGE fan of this show over the past few months, after hearing about it form friends. And as I'm afraid happened to alot of potential viewers, I tried to just tune in to a random episode, and was completely lost. Then I got the first season on DVD and watched them all from the beginning and I must say this show is pure GENIUS, partly because it seems as if it's intended to be watched multiple times because you catch new jokes everytime.

But I read an unfortunate article this morning that said the show was being cancelled. I believe this to be because you really have to watch them in sequence to really "get it." Anyone else feel this way? I really find it to be the funniest show I have ever seen, for sure. It's a shame that it has to be cancelled, maybe it will pop up again on a cable network, but who knows? I implore anyone who is hard up for a rental or just bored sometime, rent the first disk of season one, you will not be disapointed. DVD is the ideal medium for this particular show. I will warn you, once you start, there's no going back! Come on!! Peace

Its the only sitcom on tv right now that I watch. Very funny, but my favorites are still Newsradio and Seinfeld.

I agree - it's very funny. I'm surprised at some of the things they get away with on that show. Too bad it's been cancelled.

Yes he is, and yes it has. As of this morning, 11/11/05, Fox announced that they will not show anymore episodes through November sweeps, show the rest of the new ones in December, and then that's all she wrote, baby.

Its not official yet, but apparently Fox has declined to buy a full 22 episodes.

I enjoy it. It's an intelligent show on Fox. How often can you say that? There are always about four subplots ... somehow intertwined ... and no laugh track (cue to laugh). I'm also a little bummed that NBC canceled "Scrubs."

Here is the quote from the MSN article posted above:

"It looks like curtains, too, for Fox’s comedy “Arrested Development,” which never translated its Emmy Award and critical raves into a broader popularity.

Fox didn’t announce the end of the show, but said it wouldn’t order a full season’s worth of 22 episodes. Barring a miraculous turnaround, that usually means a series is kaput.

Critics loved the quirky comedy starring Jason Bateman, and it won the Emmy for best comedy last year. But its already paltry ratings dropped precipitously this season, averaging 4.3 million viewers on Monday nights."

I own the DVD set of the first season of Arrested Development and I love the show. Great writing and great comedic acting! However, I have a hard time following any television show that is on regular television... even the good ones like AD, 24, and Lost... because I'm busy and don't have time to either watch them when scheduled or set the VCR.

I've always thought that Arrested Development would have been better off on one of the cable movie channels like HBO and Showtime. They would be far less restricted with their off-the-wall story lines there, and if you missed an episode, HBO and Showtime usually replays them multiple times throughout the week. (I've seen every episode of The Sopranos, The Wire, Arliss, Deadwood, Sex in the City, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Weeds due to the multiple showing format.)

(Also, I should add that it is much more enjoyable to watch the shows on channels like HBO and Showtime because they are commercial free.)
