I've seen so many players wear these, what so special about them?
1. They are great shoes
2. Asics has been SUPER aggresive getting their product on to the feet of players
They are actually very comfortable shoes
I put a hole in the side of gel res 5s in 2 weeks.
Good shoes. I have a pair and I like them. They are doing a good job with in the tennis field. And like it was mentioned above, they have been very agressive with their marketing.
Thanks for the info. Are they good for support? They must have been very aggressive with there marketing, because all the players are sponsored by others brands like Nike and Adidas.
I find them to be great shoes. Nikes are too narrow for my wide feet. I was wearing the Barricades (5&6), but ultimately suffered too many jammed toes. I really like the Challengers I've had really good results with the 7's and 8's -- its about time for a new pair. Check them out.
I did it my first session. Only good for carpet play now. Shame, as they're otherwise great shoes.
Been wearing them for a few years now. I do wear the tread out somewhat quickly, but have no other problem with them.
Love them right out of the box.
They are excellent shoes. Had barricades before but too heavy and cumbersome. Asics lead the way in tennis shoes for my money.
I cant comment on their longevity just yet but for comfort and breathability they are an excellent shoe.
You may need to wear two pairs of socks though!!
I went from Barricades to Gel Res. My Gel Res is just as good as the Barricades, and feels more fitted and comfortable just like a perfect glove. Durability is just as good surprisingly.
Its nice to see more pros or anyone wearing asics, it seems like everyone wears Nike or Adidas. The gr5's are comfortable but I notice they fit a half size large for me anyways, never tried the solution speeds.
BITD, we bought huge rolls of duct tape. http://freepostermaker.com/uploads/saved_posters/free-poster-me8gktcfik-DUCT-TAPE-SHOES.jpg Don't Hate
What's bitd mean?
I'm guessing "back in the day"?
BTW, loved my Asics GR4 shoes. I just sent them in on Tuesday for the warranty so hopefully the GR5 is just as good.
Ah, makes sense! Thanks.
I thought the 4s were very good and the 5s even better so you should love them. Some info that may or may not apply to your feet, I went up a 1/2 size for the 5s, and Asics warranty were happy to accommodate my color/size request. Good company.
I believe they are successful in combining a supportive shoe with quick feeling ie light weight shoe. I'm probably not one to ask about durability as I get a lot of time out of my shoes even the vapor 9. I really puzzle at how people destroy shoes in a couple of weeks I try not to think of what they are doing to their legs, but I digress the first sentence answers the question
I went down to a 10 on the GR4 based on TW's recommendation so I requested 10.5 (in yellow) for the GR5 replacement. Glad to hear about your experience. I can't wait, hope they show up next week (wishful thinking), haha.
great shoes for me. comfort right out of the box and play very fast. I've been wearing for several years, GR2's, 3's, 4's, 5's and Gel Challenger 8's. I take advantage of the 6 month warranty..its great seeing the popularity, when i first started wearing them, no one did..loving the new styles and colors. I'm currently interchanging 2 pairs of 4's and a pair of 5's. The 4's do run big, I have size 10 in the 4's, every other model, size 10.5.
You're in CA like me so it could well be next week. They'll fit great as I did the same thing. (sized down 1/2 sz in GR4 and back to usual sz in GR5). To me, both the feel and styling are improved on the 5.
My local tennis store had an Asics display 'tower'. Most of the sneakers on this display were running shoes. I picked out the most expensive one ($145) and tried it on. It was the most comfortable sneaker i've ever worn. If I didn't wear a suit to work I would have purchased them on the spot.
Needed another speed shoe after the vapors, haven't enjoyed a shoe like these in a long time. Super comfy/light.great ventilation, traction not the greatest.Stability is surprisingly good for such a light shoe.well padded around the ankles, zero break in time,
Just hideous to look at.had to put the black laces in
Like most if us they won't last 5months, but picked them up for 99$ at a local tennis shop.steal for such a great shoe, you feel like usain bolt in them...
Are those more yellow or lime green? I've seen them on TW and I can't figure out what color it is.
I wore my GR4 to work one day since I had a match after work and didn't feel like bringing two pairs of shoes, I had never felt so much cushion walking up the stairs!
I don't know what Asics does with the returned shoes but I wished I could have kept them just for walking around in!
Tennis ball yellow would be the best description ^^
Thanks for posting a pics with black laces.....I was thinking about switching the laces, but now after looking at that, it's fine the way it is.
Yes, most comfy tennis shoe out of the box, no break in time, light....I don't notice an issue with traction though, but I'm not a high level player.
And yes, tennis ball yellow is the best description of the color.
I guess this proves I am officially an old fart. I bought two pair, one clay and one hard court...both in the white.
Why do you say you're an old fart? Because you bought quite possibly the best sneaker in a color that never goes out of style/looks good with everything?
I like your reasoning better.
Don't feel old, see a 73 yo rockin' the Solutions in Black and Orange, http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Asics_Gel_Solution_Speed_Clay_Bk_Or/descpageMSASICS-ASGSCLO.html
Thanks man! I'll have to get a pair
I'm 52 and LOVE the GR5 bright Yellow ones......I have the clay and HC as well.........funny my 15yr old will ONL Y wear the White or the Blue ones exclusive to Europe (we had to buy 4 pair of the blue ones for him when we returned a few weeks ago) -
I have to say that the white/blue TW carries is the best looking shoe out there, IMO.
Let me add that the clay court sole does make a real difference on clay. The hard court sole feels a bit lighter and works well on hard. However, it is a pain in the arse when heading to the club when you're not sure if you're in our out.
