I'd bet she's watched enough of Nadal's matches to know how it's done.

Yeah, pretty much. I have seen people complain about mto's here before. But this is the first time it was so absolutely blatant.

I thought the same thing. "Up, looks like my opponent has snagged the momentum, time for my (fill in the blank) to start hurting."

When the on-court interviewer asked Vika about her medical timeout, and if that everything was alright...Vika could only say that she was nervous and upset at herself for not closing out the match. Wow...that's as good as admitting you took the MTO to mess up your opponent's rhythm.

    Classless #1 is classless.

Damn, i guess i am watching the final with mute on.

If MTO's go longer than 3mins then should be allowed to take a game off per min the extra MTO takes.

She said she couldn't breathe...aka nerves. You should default the match if you take more than 5 minutes on a MTO.

That's just wrong!! ... take a 10 minute break before a 19 year old is trying to serve to stay in the match.. I lost whatever respect I had for Vika ... booo

U can`t default a player if he takes a long time for an MTO,but i think the rules say that if the MTO time has expired the player gets time violation, point penalties for like every missed 20 seconds or so.
So imo the umpire got it wrong here.If u allow an MTO then u should stick to the rules and give penalties for all the time it took to get back on court

I think it lasted 10 minutes. Sloane was then ice cold serving to stay in the match.

She was nervous, so she took a break. ATROCIOUS. She should be penalized.
Why was Sloane just sitting though, thru the entire timeout. That was baffling as well.

Vika needs to get her lies straight. First it was the two injuries timeout, the rib and the knees. Now it's her having a hard time breathing. And laughing a lot while telling that lie.

    Damn.

At least ESPN is finally doing the coverage right, the commentators are tearing into Azarenka for icing the opponent.

Maybe she doesn't know the rule. If she step up to fight for her right, the umpire could have rejected Vika 2 MTOs.

What they should have is one and only one 5 min timeout allowed per match per player. And that timeout can be used for any reasons. If a player uses his timeout for nerves or whatever, then if he/she gets injured, well too bad, you forfeit. That will make player think twice before pulling that ****.

I think it is a really bad rule you can leave the court when the other playing is serving, and 2 diff injury timouts or clearing her head ?

Unfortunately, you are wrong. Total BS, but it was legal. Chair umpire can't make the decision anyway.

only issue is that it will become a strategic move and will be used as such... you can be sure your opponent will take one before you serve for set/match

If she honestly thought a heart attack could happen why would she lie and say she had knee and ankle injuries or whatever.

Actually I don't like Azarenka. Serena beating her everytime is an even better feeling for me than Rafa crushing Fred 19 times.

but if Aza is not feeling well she should get medical attention, that goes for everyone.

glad to see that the Nadal hate still permeates through in a Azarenka vs. Stephens thread.....

I'm fine with that since you would be expecting your opponent to do it and it's not unlike many sports where the opposing team takes a timeout for tactical reasons.
