Florida at 11 is a gift. God bless the computers! Looking forward to men's and women's regionals!

Could be as many as 7 SEC teams hosting regionals if they go off rankings - Georgia, Kentucky, Miss St, Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Tennessee.

    Women's team rankings 4/24/12

Dukes women's team wins the ACC and drops a spot to three. UNC loses to Duke in the final and climbs a spot to seven. #25 Georgia Tech beats #9 Miami and moves all the way to #24.
#3 Florida beats #7 Georgia and they both move up a spot.
    I'm just saying....

If Georgia manages to hang on to the #2 rank through selection time, that would be HUGE for them. Avoiding USC until the final would be nice...

Agreed. I almost don't see how we could drop now unless UCLA beats USC again and maybe that vaults them up to #1 or #2 and thus drops us to #3. Ohio State winning the Big 10 Tourney won't do anything for their ranking because the highest ranked team they could possibly beat would be 22nd ranked Michigan.

Yeah I wasn't expecting the jump past both UVA/OSU but I'll take it. If being the 2 seed means an easier quarterfinal then great. Once you reach the semis though it's going to be tough sleeding because USC, UCLA, UVA, and Ohio State are all capable of beating the other so to win 2 straight against those 4 is going to take a great effort.

I'm thinking that this late in the season, a team's ranking is so built up with results that big jumps aren't going to happen. It's not an opinion poll, where if No. 25 GT beat No. 9 Miami, they might be elevated to No. 15 or 16. The computer is just folding one more result into a season full of results and spitting out a number based on all of those results. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but nothing really surprises me with the computer.

Welcome to the club of computer poll haters.

But, as for your Duke dropping below Florida argument...should Duke have realistically ever been above UF?

I was not saying Duke should be ranked above Florida, I just thought it worth noting. I didn't realize when I posted that UCLA had lost to USC this past weekend (and they lost to Cal on the 13th). So a lot of teams can feel under appreciated by the computer. At the end of the day the rankings are important mostly in that they play into the draw for the NCAA tournament.

yeah, the women's side is a totally tangled web of results at this point, we'll see how much the NCAA lets the rankings sort it out for seedings / how much they try to think through the results themselves - i hope they do more of the former and less tangled-web-navigating:
"well, Stanford looks like the best team, only one loss and they beat down defending champs and other 1-loss team UF"
"...um, but they got killed by UCLA at home - that's the best team, they won Indoors also"
"...you mean the team that just lost to both USC and Cal??? and Cal got destroyed by Duke"
"wait, you mean the Duke team that got wiped off the court by UF??? seems pretty obvious UF should be #1!"
"riiight, the UF team that barely looked worthy of stepping on the courts with Stanford?"
    *rinse and repeat*

good luck with that mess, NCAA seeding committee
