Exactly , whether its was the tight queens match , Madrid or the Olympics , Nadal outlasted Novak MENTALLY not physically. If he had won those 3 close matches the H2H would have been 13-10 pre 2011.

But hey it makes people sleep easier at night , if they want to think that their idol is losing to someone who is cheating right.

Have you considered the possibility, that it really might look out of the norm?

I don't understand why people are focusing on "straight set victories" and bagel sets; you don't get any more credit for winning 2,2, and 2 then you do for 10-8 in the 5th set. More important than how many straight set wins Nole had is the fact that the 16-7 result prior to 2011 was comprised of an enormous edge on dirt for Nadal, and no edge whatsoever on all matches NOT played on dirt. That is no longer true, so, moving from very competitive off of dirt, not competitive on it, to superior on the latter, very competitive on the latter is the result, a combination, IMO, of Nole's improvement overall and BP's decline-funny how male players who excel on dirt don't seem to enjoy long careers, for one reason or another-Borg, Kuerten and now BP come to mind, among others. Surprising, isn't it, since we're always told of how much easier dirt is on the players...

    Well....

Just like I expect you to say that Novak winning 8 straight games against Nadal at RG isn't the same as beating him down again.

But Tennis_Hands: you really have a lot of nerve. You want a carbon copy of your expectations of Djokovic replicated on the tennis court, and you expect me to give you some slack when it comes to distinguishing a bagel from a breadstrick? I don't think so. So NO. A bagel is NOT a breadstick. I need an explanation of how Federer won a game 6-0 against Nadal, not 6-1.

Have a taste of your own medicine.

Novak never had fitness problems. So, to put it on your words: "Next"

I should've added one crucial thing in that post after using the word outlasted ...... the % of long rallies won in these matches ...nadal used to comfortably win majority of these long rallies , even more so at the crucial junctures...nole had to go for his shots more to cut down these long rallies ..... since 2011 that wasn't the case ....nole happily went back and forth playing 'ping pong' vs rafa ....

increased fitness also can lead to increased confidence/mental strength and I suppose that was part of reason for novak's increased mental toughness .... he could back himself to win long rallies vs anyone and he could go the distance ......which is why even on HC, he went for the 'safer' (!) method of grinding down rafa rather than trying to blow him off court (as he used to before )

Novak was always mentally tough even when fed initially beat him in GS finals..he was the only one even in his early days who used to give Le fed a tough fight....

Best thing about him is he actually hits harder and goes for it more when he is matchpoint down....

When you figure in his performance enhancers you get a formidable package
