First off, did anybody think that maybe this was a trick question?

Nobody's really immune to propaganda and advertising, or anything related to that as a matter of fact.

One person said that propaganda and advertising presents facts -- and this is true. Sometimes the facts aren't straight, and sometimes they're straight up lies which we can usually find out easily.

There was a politician that said something about women being in the kitchen and pregnant all the time, or something like this. This was on another candidate's message and people were like: "Whoa, what?!" but the attacked politician was actually quoting the Bible.

Now, did people do some critical thinking to go "what the...I'm looking this guy up"? Yes they did. The media, both conservative and liberal (because no media I know, even Vermont's Libertarians would support this) went on this. Now, there are a few who didn't obviously, and so we do lack some critical thinkers.

However, on a bigger picture, let's test your critical thinking skills. Here is a picture when George W. Bush when he delivered one of his State of the Union Addresses:

Now tell me, does this image seem to support Bush and his position, or degrade it a little compared to some of his other State of the Union address images on Google or whatever?
    ===========================================================================
Also, I think we don't have very good examples of inductive or deductive reasoning:

    Deductive Reasoning:
If the Law of Conservation of Mass states that mass cannot be created or destroyed, and mass disappears within black holes, then there must be another vortex or portal that creates mass to replace the mass lost, or moves the mass through this new portal.

    Inductive Reasoning:
If I set a scale that calculates mass and even it out with another scale that has fireworks and other fun explosives within it, and I ignite them and do not let a single atom of anything escape, and the scale does not shift, then mass must have been conserved even if it changes state.
    ===========================================================================
3rd Edit: I would like if everybody who voted "Yes" or the active users who voted "Yes" answer me just simply about the question regarding the picture.

not sure about critical thinker but I do try to inject a sense of humour when playing, and occasionally I do mis-hit shots.

I have been called a shanking wit.

At least I think that was what was said, it was very windy at the time.

    Two options:

Support or Degrade in comparison to other Google images.

Sound if you believe in white holes. :)

That's the theorized opposite of black holes. I never implied you believed in them.

I'm going to let others decide whether it supports or degrades (compared to other images on Google).

    Specifically these people:

5263, big bang, dak95_00, fang510, ********, finalfantasy7, gzhpcu, Hellbergarn, Hewex, Jaewonnie, Jules, Manus Domini, MixieP, NinjaKiwi, Noodles, North, rainingaces, sennoc, SeriousSummer, SStrikerR, sureshs, TennisProdigy, toly, upbeat

Many acedemia at times are as idiotic and narrow minded as they are brilliant. I can't even keep track of the number of instances meglomania and utterly blinding narcissism have played into their defending incorrect their ideas until the end and bring ruination onto themselves and others. At the same time there are just as many who truely did forward society and their field.

It is rare that an expert in a field with incorrect ideas will recant his views/beleifs.

I don't need to justify anything. Especially to an admitted troll. You act as though you are sitting here pulling the strings. Fact is I singled you out from first time I read the title of your making co-worker quit thread.
    It was simply entertainment.
You have been played from jump street.
All your petty little ad homs and jester is stupid.
Hilarious. You are so petty and trite yet you have no clue and never did.
I have to say though it was good for a few laughs.
Have a nice life there pee_wee.

I see your other thread didn't measure up either. The mods deleted it. That is where it should have been to start with.

    Insults, Insults everywhere...

Looks like all we got was a poll with people who said "Oh yeah, I'm a critical thinker" with nobody who actually defended that vote via posting here...

    I am truly sad.

When it comes to one field of medical research I have enough knowledge and understanding to engage in a high level of critical thinking regarding it, and can see beyond the paper's abstract and beyond the face value of what the authors present. In other other areas not as much.

So ill put myself in maybe.

Not always. Even on this forum, many a juvenile posters have made poorly thought/biased threads only to be have their assertions shot down by critical thinking responders.

Another example (sorry to get into religion, dont want to start a religious debate), but the push to get Creationism taught in school and its attack on the foundations of evolution and the subsequent defense from members of the scientific community.

In terms of marks for a university course? Along a few very narrow spectrums in the specific field I would be beyond some A+ student.

ok, I'll go for it. The way the poll is worded, I could only vote for the first choice. Because, I do recognize advertising and propaganda for what it is. Sometimes I choose to buy into it and sometimes I don't. Other times, things slip by me. But I am contantly using critical thinking, both workwise and personally. For better or worse, that is just the way I am. The second question ended with "it's too much work". Uh...no, it isn't.

When you're in Biochemistry and you have no time to focus on the petty quarrels of human life, it kind of is too much work. I just like to cool myself by reading posts on Odds & Ends alongside playing Tennis.

Anyways that's 25 of 26 people who have answered (pushing wins, you didn't vote so I'm not counting you entirely yet).

I do get you. I guess it's because my job focuses a lot on that...I'm finishing my MBA and I have 4 teenagers that require daily critical thinking...LOL. Not to mention I need to build a fh that works.:) I'm envious that you can let go and just "be". I need to work on that.

I don't think so (your last sentence). Sounds like you've got a full plate and have your ducks in proper sequence - keep it up. So easy to second guess others or yourself at times but it doesn't get you anywhere.
