Arm Pain

The Wreck

Semi-Pro
I play high school tennis, and in the last couple weeks we have had several matches in a row. I started to notice a pain coming on in my arm, and by the end of the week, the pain became pretty unbearable. It never seemed to effect me during the warm up, but after a few games of hard hitting and serving, my arm would throb.

I think I've ruled out tennis elbow since the pain for that is usually on the outside of the elbow and down into the forearm. The pain I'm experiencing is focused around the inside of the elbow and up into the lower bicep. Any ideas on what could be causing this or how I could remedy it (outside of R.I.C.E)?

I also thought it could have been due to the strings, but I have been playing with the same strings for quite some time now without having much issue before.

Any help is appreciated.

For now, RICE is good. You need to ice it frequently and stay away from tennis.

While what you are describing sounds like Tennis Elbow's twin brother Golfer's Elbow, you will be able to locate the source of pain with better precision, once the initial swelling goes down somewhat.

Won't be a bad idea to go see a doctor.

before you play tennis, give your elbow a deep massage. it warms and stretches the muscles. Also, mildly stretch out your wrists as tight wrists can contribute to elbow pain.

Hi wreck,

Before the onset of full blown tennis elbow for me, I felt general forearm pain and not in the outside elbow area.

So, beware and take it easy. It is serious pain that can sideline you for weeks and affect the way you play in the future.
