Articles for my school assignment

Hi guys

I am about to wrap up my days in school, and about all I need to do is write this damn long paper/assignment. I am yet to receive my 'problem-formulation' or 'problem-statement' or whatever you call it, but I do know that it is going to be about the difference between clay and grass courts. How throughout the years and there still seems to be a good amount of clay specialists and ditto about grass. Obviously as a tennis player myself, I already know what the reasons are. However, in a paper like this I need articles, books etc. to speak out for my statements.

I was told my a good friend of mine that this was the place to go if you needed help such a this, so my question to those willing to help:

Do you know any good sites, magazines, or maybe already know an article or two about this? Thing is, I am from Europe, and when I search for articles on google like 'difference between grass and clay' it almost comes with nothing useful for my paper. Mostly articles on my native language, and they are really useless.

So do you know any places, or can you in any way help me, that would be greatly appreciated... and if not... well :)

I'll come back with further information when I have received my problem-formulation.

Have a great day.

The guys who hang out in the "Former Pro Player Talk" section of this forum will provide you with the most help I think.

Clay:

Slower off the bounce
Enables sliding
Ball dies, so good for dropshots
Ball bounces higher
Points are longer
Favors baseline play
Shoes get dirty and need the clay to be shaken off
Bad bounces
Nadal

Grass:

Fast off the bounce
Slippery
Low bounce
Favors net play
Needs special shoes with spikes to prevent slipping
Bad bounces
Federer

Interesting. I also wrote a paper on a similar topic.

If you are looking to cite sources for facts, record, data, etc, there are tennis history books like "Bud Colin's History of Tennis.", and you can find books on each grand slam. Players' autobiographies also have their insights on how the courts play, etc..

Interesting fact is that more players have won French Open than Wimbledon (at least before Nadal.) Few players have won French Open more than twice (at least before Nadal).

Thanks for commenting guys! I will probably be back tomorrow when i get my problem formulation.

@sureshs

Thanks man. I did already know these facts, problem is i need sources in my paper so my censor will know where I am from.. and I, myself, is not a valid source haha.. and I probably can't quote a guy on TW. Loved your last one under grass.... "Federer".. so true.

@junbunkim

Very interesting you have had a similar task. Problem about getting the books you talked about is the fact that I am a little bit late searching for materials, seing the week I have to write my paper starts tomorrow. If you sure any articles or know any places I can go for help, I would be really greatful.

And I agree on your fact. Really interesting.

Why can't you quote a guy on TW? This board has many times more knowledge than any other source of tennis information, including books, magazines and videos. We are the authority on tennis here.

You can use Google books to search through tennis books without having to buy. You'll get previews of just the pages you need and you can always cite them that way, since you're short on time.

Google Scholar is a good suggestion. Here are a few articles that might help get you started, if you can get access to them:
