Dolgo vs Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo
thx for starting the thread, Bud!
So ... Dolgo's in Brasil this week ... he breaks in the 11th game, then takes the set 7-5 ... (bad stream, can't even see the ball )
Thank you, Bud.
Tommy Robredo also beat Fognini last night for the 2nd time in a row in a pair of tournaments (they had an SF at Santiago),
Yeah. I like Dolgo, but its hard to watch :-?
Up a set though so good news.
Sasha wins, 7-5, 6-4. Moving beautifully.
Dolgo into the QF!
Montanes is down a set and a break. Him going out would make Dolgopolov highest seed in the bottom half...
Hometown boy Mello taking advantage of every point on serve. Montañes making errors he can't afford, serving to stay in the match.
Mello two points away from a place in the last 8.
I know! Isn't it exciting?
Monty out. Surely a great chance for Dolgo to make his first (non-CH) final.
We'll see. He'd still have to get past Tommy, who just racked up his 10th title in Santiago.
True, I'd like to see that semi.
It would be very exciting, I think! Would Tommy's experience triumph over Sasha's energy? They're both players with a lot of guile, it looks like to me.
And even though Sasha was playing some beautiful tennis today - a friend says he reminds her of Coria, and she was a crazy El Mago fan - Tommy is far from a slouch on the clay. Besides all his titles, he was Rafa's doubles partner when they won in Monte Carlo.
Bellucci and Berlocq playing some kick-butt tennis for anyone who enjoys clay.
Very exciting. Tomasz has taken the first; 4 games all in the second set.
sorry i missed that one, but Bell won it, and thank goodness ... i think he got knocked out in the QF last year ... so it would be nice if he could make it to the final like he did the year before (when he lost to rockin tommy robredo )
and looky here two of my faves, Igor and Alex, winning doubles together ... hope I get to see their next round!
Hoping Belluci and Dolgo meet up...would be a fancy match!
Congratulations to the rockin' Russians! (Do you think Sasha would be okay with that, if I referred to him as Russian, and not Ukranian? If not, I have to figure out something else cool to call them ...)
It would be in the final if they did - Bellucci still would have to get through both Chela and Nico Almagro, who is the #1 seed, and Sasha meets Starace next (Tommy is out :-( ) and then, if he beats him, possibly Mello, who's already pulled two upsets and has the home crowd behind him.
*is watching too much of this tournament*
But yes, you're right - I think that would be a really exciting final.
I've seen Alex interviewed two or three times and gotten the idea (whether correct or not) that he was a little more fond of russian culture than he was of ukranian. I remember reading somewhere that Ukraine was kind of the seat of original Russian culture, the center from which Russia spiraled out, but let's try to think of a name that's more neutral ....... put our thinking caps on, cuz I'd love it if those two would form a similar type partnership to that of kubot polish/marach austrian or melzer austrian/petzschner german ..... thinking caps!
^ lol, two Russians kicking some asses on Brazilian soil.
I put them in there for LG because she said they were one of her favorite pairs.
The Brasilians are doing all right. Richard Mello knocked out Giraldo, who was in last week's final, and then took out the #2 seed Montañes.
wanna see, dear ruerooo, but links not working atm
good news: dolgopolov up the early break on starace, 3-0
Oh, bummer! It's from the Brasil Open gallery - I hope it comes up again soon! :???:
Why the heck they still organize it there, I don't know.
2 ridic points from 0-40, Dolgo is way too much fun
The stream is ridiculously bad... I can barely see the players let alone the ball.
i'm thinking it's b/c the players like going there ... iirc, this is an area where JCFerrero owns a hotel!
fantastic sunsets ......
great the way he was able to raise his level on demand ... he's prolly gonna shine on clay this year ... i'm looking forward to his FO performance!
first set to Alex Dolgo 6-3 ....
you can only see the ball when it's in a players hand!
Terrible first serve % from Dolgo - 46% at the moment.
Close it out Alex
That is terrible. :-|
When Sasha gets more consistent he's going to be a monster, but right now he's still all over the place.
Wow! How many hotels does that man own? I thought it was only the two in Valencia and the shares of the Valencia Open. Soon he's going to own half of South America.
Wow - I guess Sasha showed me. Through to the semis!
Playing Mello who's on a roll - that semi is going to crackle.
I'm gonna have to check, now!
I just remember tennis at a beach resort last year (and iirc JCF was playing that one), the announcer mentioned that he owned I think it was "a piece of" that resort. Yes, it seems jcf is quite the entrepreneur!
that's true about his FS%, tho it was quite good at the beginning, began deteriorating as potito started upping the pressure ... but when his serve did go in, alex was pretty good @ 80%
I love JCF. I was sad when he withdrew. The wrist, the knee ... sigh. :-(
I know the hotel he owns in Valencia - the tennis instructors for lessons there are from the Ferrero Academy, if you please. And he owns part of the Valencia Open, as does Ferru.
And not that this tournament isn't exciting, because holy geez, Sasha.
I think that semi with Mello has the potential to be a blockbuster.
So, no Bellucci-Dolgo final to be had. Le sigh.
But a win over either Chela or Nico -- who is, after all, the #1 seed -- would be huge for Sasha.
chela was tuff against bellucci yesterday, and he's got the early break up on almagro, 3-0
Chela has come out playing really well, and Almagro is spraying... 4*-0 now!
Nico's scorelines looked pretty safe coming into the QFs, so this is out of the blue.
^^^ wow, chela up a double break against the no. 1 seed!
when I looked in yesterday, it sounded as if chela actually had more crowd support than bellucci!
Wow, some of these rallies are getting good.
When is Rafa playing?
toe to toe 4 all in the third
bit of a battle of the fans there for a while, and nico got into a heated puta word exchange with some hecklers ... managed to focus after that tho
chela serving to stay in the match, 4-5
argie fans getting booed by spanish fans!
Nico exults over chelafans more than over Chela (imo)
... Second Semifinal in a few minutes ...
A Dolgopolov (UKR) vs R Mello (BRA)
both playing very well. s/b a good one!
Vamos Nico! Keep a grip on that temper!
Sid, Rafa has said he'd like to play in Spain's Copa Davis team against Belgium, first weekend in March. Vamos!
Sasha and Mello up next!
 I did raise my eyebrow a bit at the celebration thrusting, but I think you're right about the fans...
Cmon Alex, I have 4 whole British pounds backing you.
that's good news ... is it gonna be on clay, i suppose?
and rafa's thigh muscle pull ... how's that going, if you know?
brazilian fans got a bit drowned out by the argies when thomaz was playing Juan Ignacio ..... don't think that w/b a problem with the Sascha's match ... in fact, i'm expecting him to be the underdog in this semi against the inform brazilian .... hope dolgo can woo some fans with his play!
He trained a little in Abu Dhabi while he was there for the Laureus. His stopover in Barca to open the Conde Godó tournament included a checkup before going back to Mallorca to train and get in shape for CD.
Ridiculously, I'm not sure what their surface is. *rolls eyes at self*
Once again, we think the same thing! I was thinking how Mello would have the home court advantage, especially after this last rowdy semi -- and I think the Brasilian fans especially want him to do well since he fell to Juanquí last year, who went on to the championship.
But I still find myself hoping he'll win them over.
Indoor hardcourt for the tie.
I expect Mr. Man to win quite easily, crowd support or not.
erm ... when i mentioned mello was inform, I meant he's inMelloForm!
applause for dolgo's winners is gradually increasing ... might as well, cuz he's gonna be into his first atp final!
dolgo up a double break in the first.
richardo needs to wake up he is far too mellow so far.
Easy first set for Dolgo. Looks relaxed, and it brings out the best in him.
