I have the chance to buy a Babolat Star 2 that has been used for around 200racquets. I trust the seller so I believe that figure. Any ideas as to what it's worth?

It's probably the next best machine that Babolat has made. I have a star 2 and it is a very dependable and easy to maintain machine. You won't regret buying one.

I say around 1300-1500 for one. But more like 1500. I would buy it.

Only a babolat star 3 is better(Simply the BEST they ever made or anyone else has made).

BTW: the parts on the star 3 are used to repair the star 2s.

Someone got a new stringer and is offering me their star 2 for $500. I haven't ever strung a racquet before and don't know much about the machine. From the sounds of this thread it sounds like I would be getting a pretty good deal.

THe person said that I could "recondition" the clamps to new for $100 and could get an "updated table top" for $300. He said that the machine works just fine the way it is but since it is aging those are the repairs he would make if he was keeping it long term. I don't have any idea at all what it would mean to recondition the clamps or to get an updated table top- do these prices sound realistic?

A start 2 for $500? Check it out and see if there is anything wrong other than the clamps that you already mentioned. For $500, that is a steal!

What would a Star 2 in excellent condition go for these days?

    Probably $1650+

This is just a rough estimate from me. You don't see many Star 2 machines in great condition.

I recently bought a Star 3 (that's been used often, and when I mean often, I mean often) for $250. I had to buy some replacement parts ($93) and it's perfect.
I would say, if it's in great condition, then close to $1000.

Considering the risk that you are taking with this old of a machine, I wouldn't pay anything near that! Maybe $600USD max. There are just no parts available for the electronics & many of the mechanical parts are unavailable. The clamps should still be repairable, but beyond that, most everything else you just have to hope it doesn't break. I am keeping a Star 4 alive that is in the same boat. I had to repair the load cell, as a new one was not available & there are a few springs that need to be replaced, but can't get. Anyway, although these machines are very robust & reliable, you are taking a risk that it will not fail. If you do ship it to Tennis Machines for repair, I think shipping is around $100USD each way.

Good thing I have received an Alpha Axis Pro for free! I really didn't feel like spending a thousand bucks for a machine. I will invest in better machine when I start to learn how to string.

Anyways, since there are no parts available, it's best to search for lower prices. How much does TW charge for the repair?
