is it easier to hit a reliable backhand down the line with a 1HBH or a 2HBH? i think its the 2HBH but i do think its easier to get more topspin with a 1HBH -- and topspin is so important in hitting a reliable backhand down the line.

what do you guys think? my coach says there's no obvious answer.

reason why this thread is on this particular forum, is because i think one reason why nadal does not have a reliable backhand DTL, is because for some reason, he doesn't seem to be able to put much topspin on that particular shot.

IMO it's easier to hit DTL with the 1HBH.

When Rafa hits a BH-DTL, it's usually flat, but purposefully. His swing is a little different (and he really leans into it/over it) and he's usually going for a winner with that shot.

It is possible with both but I do think that the natural direction for a 2HBH is more crosscourt because you have a more rotational path. since both hands are on the racket you have to rotate the upper body more which pulls the ball to the right similar to most baseball hitters having a slight pull tendency.

with the 1HBH you can keep the shoulders square and get more extension while with the 2HBH you need good timing (hit the ball later) to hit DTL.

BTW you should have posted that question in the coaching section (where the real tennis guys and not just nadal/fed fanboys post), there you usually get good answers.

For me it's more comfortable to hit DTL with a 1 hander.

Never even tried to hit with a 2HBH (ok once or twice a long time ago , but obviously it dĂdnt feel good)
So, I take the one hander on this. Love to rip it DTL. Strangely enough, i hit my DTL pretty flat compared with my cc shot. But then again when I hit DTL I often go for a little bit more and that's probably why I flatten it out.

    Not surprising.
DTL, if you wanted to hit with lots of topspin, you need to turn your shoulders much more than you currently do.
CC, your shoulders are already turned.
    Same with forehands.

Ok that seems to be a valid explanation. Never really thought about it that way.
