Looks like there's not much momentum for the YEC Champions at the AO. Since 1986 when the Masters moved to the end of the season, only four players have won the YEC/Aussie double:

    1. 2006: Roger Federer won Masters Cup, won 2007 Australian Open
    2. 2003: Roger Federer won Masters Cup, won 2004 Australian Open
    3. 1996: Sampras won ATP World Championship, won Australian Open
    4. 1995: Boris Becker won ATP World Championship, won 1996 Australian Open

Unless he becomes player #5 to pull it off. Best of 5 setters in the heat are a totally different animal.

I somehow doubt this will spoil Davy's Christmas. He'll be too busy concentrating on all the really good news.

Ever since he got married, I think he plays with much more desire!! since his wife is a shopaholic!Maybe Davy could keep that desire and possibly get to the aussie Semis or final. But winning a slam depends on who is in the draw.

JennyS may not stand for Jenny Statistician, as your analysis of the data seems odd to me. You've indicated that the winner of the YEC wins the AO nearly 20% of the time, a tournament with over 100 entries, so the odds would be less than 1% on pure chance alone. Even if we assume only 10 players at the AO have a realistic chance to win, the YEC winner wins twice as often as expected (20% vs. 10%). How is this bad news for Davydenko???

Why is it bad news for Davydenko? It's not like he is anywhere near being an AO favorite to begin with.
