He seems to have lost a lot of weight in the last few months and has changed his team.

He won a challenger title last week and is doing well in Stockholm so far.

Can he ever get back in to the top20 and later even top10?
IMO he's far too talented to just hang around in the top100.

    of course there's hope ! :)

after all, skipping the US open qualifications turns out to have been rather a good decision...
(since that: 2 challenger wins in saint-remy-de-provence and tashkent, decent opposition against nadal in tokyo, making a strong impression so far in stockholm...)
the motivation is here, he's slowly coming back... until the top10, i hope. ;)

Good to see Baghdatis doing well again.

Does he have a time machine now though? How did he manage to win a challenger NEXT year? :)

LOL, I just noticed it too.

I have no idea how I mixed up "next year" with "last week", it's pretty much the opposite.

Now, in the OP original question change the word "Baghadtis" for the word "Nadal" and let's see how you handle it.

    Just curious.

I think there is definitely a chance for him to come back to the top 30-20. He just needs to pace himself, take the small steps to get back into the game kinda like Blake did in either 05' or 06' (I dunno which year it was, but basically the year he was coming back.)

Top 5 material if (massive if) he's fit.

If fit top 20 next year, top 10 year after and then who knows.

Surely, he's capable of recording at least one win against one of the big 3 - yet to do it.

Again too much early stardom, too much $$ and not neough maturity to look out long term. A nice life in Paris, a cut of fans drooling over him and you get this!
Hungry on the elevator up from oblivion to stardom and then relaxation and disrespect for fans and the sport that gave them fame and wealth.

Better to root for or follow those on a journey up like a Wickmayer. Fans know they will get 100% effort.

With his recent tournament win in Stockholm Baghdathis moved up 25 spots in the rankings and is now at #41.

It would be great if he could string together another run in Australia like that of 06.

I dont think you will ever see a run like the 2006 Australian Open again from him. I could see him returning to the top 20 and maybe making some slam quarters in the future. That is it though. That would still be a nice comeback for him. He will never fulfill the potential he looked to have back in 2006. Too many other young guys have made their move.

Hope for what? Another slam final, or heaven forbid a slam title, absolutely none. A return to the top 20? Maybe but it is a stretch.

Baghdatis is way to good to hang outside the top50. Talentwise he's at a similiar level as Djokovic IMO, but he's not as diciplined and mentally strong, in that way I agree that he won't win a slam.

Another slam final is unlikely, but not impossible.
Top20 isn't a stretch either if he keeps his weight down and doesn't get injured all the time, I think he'll be top10 in a few months.

I think part of his problem was the contract Adidas gave him win he made the finals of the AO. According to his brother, it was a ten-year no cut deal.

If he stays healthy, he'll be back top 20, no doubt. Top 10, I still think it's too soon to say. I wouldn't bet on it though. Never say never, the guy is still relatively young and was in a GS final and SF not that long ago.

LOL he would need to repeat his 2006 Australian Open final to be top 10 in only a few months.

A rank at the lower end of the top 10 after Miami isn't impossible. He'll need to reach the 2nd week of the AO, but I think he can do it.

True, but even earlier this year he still showed some good form in AO vs Djokovic. If he doesn't make at least top 20, it will be b/c of health, not b/c he's not good enough.

Actually unless he wins a MS 1000 its hard to see him top 10 so soon. Maybe in a year, but not in a few months.

I didn't calculate it, but I think if he does well for the rest of the year (does he play Paris?) and reaches QF in the AO and then manages a few QF and SF in the following events he could probably reach #10 before the clay season.
