This is an interesting matchup. They have never played against each other so it's kind of hard to predict what is going to happen. What is Marcos' record against lefties? What is Rafa's record in 1st time meetings? I like Nadal in 3 sets but I won't be surprised if Marcos comes away with the victory. That guy surprises me almost everytime....what makes him so good?

This will be an interesting match. It'll be cool just to see what kind of emotions these 2 guys bring to the match.

Rafa said in his interview yesterday that they have never played, even in the juniors. Also, he has "very special motivation" for this match.

What did he mean by "very special motivation"? What was the context?

Rafa is just way too consistent for Baghdatis at this point...Marcos's biggest weakness is his tendency to lose focus and not keep the pressure on...he can get away with this against guys like Nalbandian, Roddick, and Ljubicic, as they are all mentally fragile when the chips are down....he'll have no such luxury against Nadal.

Although Marcos has been playing awesome tennis, I really don't think he stands a chance against the world #2. I'm expecting Rafa to win in 3.

You can't just say something like that and not elaborate. I think Rafa wants to play Federer in the final and put any questions aside who is the better player head to head.

I said it before the tournament, Bags in the semis, he will beat Nadal.Bags has all the shots in the book, the thing right now is his inconsistency with the serve.

Yes, I watched that match. It wasn't the most exciting, that's for sure. And then saw the Bryans defeat Grosjean/Gasquet. I love watching Bob and Mike play.

He turned his ankle a bit in the Grosjean match, so he withdrew as a precaution. We hope he's okay. But I saw him after the match, and he seemed pretty upbeat.

Turning the ankle isn't that bad. I've done it and it usually feels okay after a few minutes. When you're 19 years old, these kinds of things aren't really a problem.

Again, I will do the blog. But when I spoke with Rafa last night, he was non-commital on the ankle.

We expect he'll play, but no one saw him practicing yesterday, and I don't think he's practiced since it happened. They are going to test it today and see how it goes. If he pulls out, I will not be shocked -- let's put it that way.

I think Rafa would have told me it was "no problem" if it wasn't a problem. He didn't say that at all. In fact, just the opposite.

If Nadal's setting up en excuse to lose, then the game is already won for Baggy.

Rafa doesn't need to set up an excuse. 2005 tells us that. But if his ankle is an issue, he shouldn't chance it. He's got lots of points to defend in coming weeks.

though I'd love to see a close match, Nadal is a big Lion and Bags is a little Bunny. Straight sets. Yawn.

Rafa has not booked a practice court today. But we've heard nothing official. He could practice at the hotel.

He always warms up 2 to 3 hours before a match. But most players are out of the tourney now, so he likely knows he can get a practice court without a problem. He also could practice at the hotel. Still, it's unusual that he hasn't set something up. And given what he told me last night, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him here at all. If I hear anything, I'll let you know.

Is Baghdatis a lot slimmer now than at the AO? Or does it just look like that to me? His face seems to look a lot narrower. As if he'd been losing weight.
