The more ballyhooed Roddick, Fish, Harrison, Sock, Blake, Querrey, Bogomolov, Young, Kudla, Ginepri, Sweeting, Isner have accomplished little for American tennis this year, only Isner has made a final (in Houston). Everyone else has been shut out, it's been a quiet year for US mens tennis so far. Though credit to Fish and Isner for playing very very well in Davis Cup.

Brian Baker comes along out of nowhere and makes a final in his first ATP event in six years, surpassing all other Americans but Isner in 2012.

What a magnificent start of the year for Baker to reach Nice final losing to Almagro. Best is yet to come for him, you have to think.

Thanks def, forgot about that, Isner's results have declined since that great effort in IW.

He can play tennis. Just goes to show that if you have the muscle memory implanted young enough, it never goes away.

I'm really surprised at the win over Davydenko. Granted, he's not at anywhere near his best, but Davy could always play on clay..

great effort makin the final, no shame losin to Algordo.

Baker d. Malisse in straight sets today for a place in round 2

    New 'live' ranking #124

With a win tomorrow over Simon, Baker will be ranked #112

It would be ironic if Baker went on a rip, bypassing both Young and Harrison, qualifying for the Olympic games
