That is not the real reason. My serve crashes against the fence in one bounce, and still has enough energy left to cross the net again and come back to me (in one bounce).

Your post is more asinine than the OP's. Spend less time posting on a tennis forum and fly over to Africa...rather than talking like a saint try acting like one.

Actually, there's probably no better thing than having your wife look after your balls. OP should heed that advice next time he goes practicing.

    This is true...sometimes...
I sometimes practice serves with 3 balls, or 2.
The courts have a wooden backwall, so my serves bounce back to the net around 6' apart. I can raise the bottom of the net so the balls roll all the way back to my baseline, but I haven't yet.

I was playing tennis last Sunday. As I was leaving the court, I noticed someone had left a brand new can of balls near the fence. Didn't see anyone on the court, so I grabbed them. Must have been my lucky day.

    LOL!!! Too true!

You managed to lose your balls to ball thieves standing a few feet away...

Them must be some magic balls huh!... Magical disappearing balls!

Your serves must have sucked so bad they couldn't take it anymore lol!

Like someone said though. If you were gone for 10 minutes, they could've easily just saw 3 good balls along the fence and collected them...not ever even noticing your bag on the bench. That could easily happen. I wouldn't read too much into that.

I would confront those b-stards and take my balls back!

Just kidding - let it go! It isn't worth the aggravation.

Let it go Suresh, claim it in the tax return as a donation.

Although I must commend you for resisting the temptation of somehow linking this to Federer, like calling them Federer fans or noticing the Wilson bags and rackets.

Lesson from this story: Wherever you go, take your balls with you, you'll need them eventually, and new ones may not readily be available. Tennis sure wouldn't be fun without balls, and the more you possess, the better!

I congratulate the good citizens who cleaned some used tennis balls off the court that someone had thoughtlessly left there. Someone could have tripped on those and fallen.

That's a definite possibility, or Suresh you could be a little more stealthy, when the suspects are at the bar or in the shower, look through their bags for the evidence. If you find the missing valuables call the authorities and have them arrested for larceny. If the cops won't act, calling it a civil matter and a case of mistaken ball identity, you could take them to small claims court or go on the Judge Judy show.

There's a mooch at my courts who has yet to crack a can of new balls in literally years, I started rifling through his bag in front of him and found what looked like a new can of Penns, it turned out to be some bald old balls that looked suspiciously like some that I used to own. He asked me if I was "hinting" he should buy some balls, that was funny, I said it was more then a hint. He has no trouble regaling us with all the drinking and fine dining experiences he has nightly, I wonder if he has to pay for them or if he mooches them too.

How many of you steal the old balls that are left on the scoring poles to be used as markers and practice serves with it? I will sometimes collect several from many courts and take them with me, and not return them to the poles.

You say you were serving with them so perhaps (whoever) thought they were just left for anyone to use.Where I play indoors when lots of people finish they just leave the balls next to the bench. Some of them were used very little but these guys don't seem to care so perhaps it was just a misunderstanding. Not to steal your thread but It's amazing what people forget on the court.Last summer my friend walked on the courts in early AM and there was a camera and tripod sitting there.

Perhaps a considerate player was just cleaning up Sureshs' mess left behind on the courts. I hate it when people just leave their stray leftover balls strewn around the court area. I think the lesson to be learned from this thread is that Sureshs needs to start cleaning up after himself.

I think it's time to get a new bag

Unbelievable! How bad does your bag look - they looked at the bag and said "let's grab the balls - they look more expensive" - Time to upgrade the bag - I say!

    To the OP,
It's not surprising that you had your balls stolen.
It actually happens a semi-regular basis in amateur
tennis and even happens sometimes in the ATP, too.

    (e.g.
1984 French Open. Mac up two sets to love vs Lendl.
    Boom. Balls got stolen.

Wimbledon quarter-finals Verdasco vs Murray. Same thing.
Verdasco won the first two sets and them Bam! Balls got swiped. )

On Friday, I stole 9 balls from 3 courts and used them in my hitting session without opening my can. I asked my partner not to open one either. At the end, he liked 6 of them and took them with him for practice.
