why do tennis players eat bananas? why not other fruits? what are bananas famous for?
They have decent levels of potassium which can help to counter electrolyte imbalances after hard playing. Frankly, most players just eat them for energy because they're easy to digest and won't make your stomach upset. There are foods and workout supps with far greater "replenishing" abilities, but few can actually sit well in your stomach when eaten in between sets.
^Potasium. I guess that's good for preventing cramps.
Some people find banana to be calming to the stomach. I'm one of those people. Orange juice have higher potassium but it is of course acidic so you may not want that during a match.
OJ is great after wards though, when you have your post session meal.
I remember seeing on TV a long time ago that bananas are the best fruits for some kind of nutrients...I don't know what kind though.
I grew up swimming competitively and we ate bananas for one reason, to prevent cramps. You can take potassium pills but bananas also have the additional benefits mentioned above.
Bananas are easy to digest. They have lots of potassium.
They contain vitamin a, c & e.
They're a good source of carbohydrates...
If I'm in a rush I can eat a bunch before I play 30mins-1hr before and I'm good to go.
Bananas are awesome...
It's like the perfect fruit to have before playing any sport...
I also like the Mandarin Orange cups that you peel off the plastic and slurp the juice and eat the oranges.
