You will enjoy your time in the Sergi Bruguera academy. It has a very pleasant atmosphere. It is not an academy that focuses on high level tennis, but it does focus on enjoyment. For one week of tennis there, you will not see any marked improvement on your game, they will not do much to change anything in your strokes or your style. But they will give you a smile at the end of the day.

There is not one hotel, let alone a nice hotel in the vicinity. You will have the chance to stay in a nice home of a family if you go.

Also sanchez casal can give you a very pleasant experience for one week of tennis in barcelona. The atmosphere is very different to bruguera. Bruguera tennis is in the mountain village, calm, no traffic, but sometimes violent local gangs have been known to target bruguera foreign visitors. Sanchez casal in farm area off main traffic road and smells like manure. But there is four star hotel only 100m from the academy called TRYP airport hotel barcelona.

    Hi Barca Tennis

A friend and I are thinking of going to Barcelona for a weekend in November (Thursday 5th / Friday 6th - Sunday 8th) to play tennis, see some of the city and watch FC Barcelona (vs Mallorca, Saturday 7th). Would you be able to recommend a hotel with good tennis facilities, or a hotel near some tennis courts where we would be able to play 3-4 hours per day?

    Thanks

Actually I think we'll just stay in a relatively cheap, central hotel (Holiday Inn Express) and try to find some courts. I'm struggling to find information on where we can play without being members though. The Real Club de Tenis (http://www.rctb1899.es/cast/index.htm) seems to be members or guests only. The David Lloyd club (http://www.davidlloyd.es/turo/) and the Real Sociedad de Tennis Pompeia (http://www.rstpompeya.org/template.php?pag=2974) don't seem to have much information.

Ideally we're looking for courts where we will be able to play 3-4 hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at maybe €10-€15 per hour max.

I've played one day at Real Sociedad de Tennis Pompeia up on Mt Juic. It was the only public nice place I could find near the center of town. Nice facility and surroundings with showers and small restaurant for lunch overlooking the courts. If I remember it was around 15E per hour. You maybe be able to get a better deal for more hours. If you have a touriste bus pass, the bus stops at the Spanish village next to the courts, otherwise it is about a 8-10 Euro taxi ride from around Las Ramblas.

    Hi Barca Tennis,

I reckon that this post is a bit out dated but would like to seek your advise if you ever get the chance to see my reply.

If you had an 11 year old child which 3 would you seriously consider checking out?

I'd like to check out 3 academies that could provide my 11 year old with the best teaching and opportunity to succeed academically and tennis. Of course, safety is a primary concern.

    Merry Christmas,
    Lasgo

    Hi Barca Tennis,

I live in the Netherlands and me and my dad train a lot.
We want to go to Spain for a midweek and we want to train with a Spanish coach. Do you know what are the costs for a day by the Gimeno Club and are there some coach's who speak English.

    Hi josh91!
    Just saw your post! sorry!
The cost for a days training is about 70 euros
For this you will get 4 hours of tennis and 1 hour of fittness.
All the coaches can speak english, so know worries there.
Email me if you would like more info!
    Thanks barca:)

    Hi Astro,

I can tell you about Bruguera Tennis Academy because I have experience with it since I was there to train for 2 summers, in 2005, 2007.

First of all when I decided to go there, it was based on 2 objectives, the first was to improve my level of tennis & fitness, the second was to have a good time!!

I was really satisfied with my time there because in terms of tennis, my 3 weeks there really improved my fitness level since there are a lot of fitness exercises and my tennis became much more consistent. I was also really satisfied with the spirit that the academy has, the friendly atmosphere from the coaches & people. It had made my time there much easier and enjoyable.

The closest hotel to the academy is El Castell which is about 10 minutes away. My friend's parents stayed there when they came to visit us and said that it was really good.

I hope I was able to help you,
    Enjoy!

I have noticed that some are saying that it doesn't focus on high level tennis, and you will have more of a good time than improvements. I don't know where was this information taken from, but for someone like me, having a good time means improving my tennis.

There are many professional ATP & WTA players training there and also one really special thing about this academy was the fitness coaches. There is a lot of fitness training involved but at the end of the day, it all contributes to your improvements.

If you want to see pictures of their compass, coaches, and players, visit there Facebook page!

Hi, I am going to Barcelona the next month and I would like to find a tennis partner over there. I always use Tennis Tonic fo find players and I see that they have already a page http://barcelona.tennistonic.com but I wonder if there is a local network or social? What about www.barcelonatennis.com ? Any other? Thanks

I'm heading to Barcelona for the month of September and looking to take some lessons for about an hour, three days per week. I looked through the list of tennis academies and places to play people listed here and while many of them seem great, I will not have access to a car while in Barcelona and this rules out many of the options. Because I'll be working the whole time as well, I'm looking to find an academy/club/park with good English speaking coaches that is accessible by metro and not a huge trip from Las Ramblas. Or even better, if anyone has had good experience with a particular coach and can recommend a name? I'm a 4.5 level USTA player, so looking for someone who can couch tournament level players. Any advice would be fantastic. Thanks!!

    Spain tennis best around!

I have to say that as a teaching pro here in the states - I find myself going to Spain to learn better teaching methods. It's the ultimate tennis destination because you really do get the best tennis and also the most insane destination to play off court. That is something we really lack in the US. I work with a club in Barcelona taking groups to Barcelona for adults and college players. I also do the same with a fantastic coach in Mallorca, Jofre Porta. I simply can't say enough about their attitude. It's the best. And the coaching is infectious although I may be spoiled as I feel I have found the best teaching. Certainly found the best of both worlds. Sorry for writing so much - clearly I'm passionate about this topic!

    Hi Costagirl
I live in Castelldefels just outside of Barcelona and play at club de tenis Andres Gimeno. Castelldefels have just been name the city of sport!
Elitennis Academy works in the club here and have done for many years, what i see they work very hard and like to keep there academy small with a good group of strong players.
For me Barcelona is the place to be for tennis! with all the tournaments here every week, the many academies and players for all over the world make it a great place for tennis.
    Thanks Barca

My sincerest apologies for not seeing this earlier. I clearly haven't quite figured out how to navigate these forums properly. I am sooo on your page and KNOW that Barcelona tennis is where it's at...Valencia these days too...no?! Anyway, I spend a lot of time in Barcelona and want to come see your club next time I'm in town. I met with Elitennis approx one year ago..were they operating out of a different club then? let's stay in touch Barca - for sure!

    Hi Barca tennis,

thinking about booking a month for my lad at tennis in academy in Castedefels(he already did a week in february and really enjoyed it), however
the cost of accomodation in the usual tourist apartments etc is a bit high. Having had a look in windows of estate agents while strolling round Casteldefel town centre I saw various apartments for rent at a more reasonable rate, would it possible to rent one of these on a short term lease of a month this summer? Or is there anywhere else I can look for more reasonable accomodation.
