Im notbeing racist cause im a big fan of Williams sister and Monfils here. I did a post like this but for asians. Now im talking about black tennis players. It doesnt matter how small of a fraction they are black still black i mean like James blake. I consider Serena Williams to be the Best Female Black Tennis player and for the best side i say James Blake or Gael Monfils. They both have a blasting foreahand but it seems blake has been more consistent. However, Monfils has the fastest hardest forehand in the world. Your thoughts? (NOT BEING RACIST HERE JUST WONDERING. I APOLOGIZE TO PEOPLE WHO MAY BE OFFENDED BY THIS THREAD)

I vote for Donald Young. Especially if his good performance in majors would result in American TV coverage of slams being more than all-day airing of live and taped W sisters' matches.

Goolagong sure doesn't look very black... or brown... or mocha for that matter. I always thought she was a white chick.

Uhm, okay. She still doesn't look very black in those photos either. Since black is a color, and I don't see that color, then she ain't black. Understand?

The greatest male black player of all time is Arthur Ashe. He was the best ameteur in the world towards the end of the open-era. He won 3 of the 4 grand slams, all in the open-era. He was the first ever black winner of Wimbledon in 1975 when he upset Connors in the final. He is the only African American to ever win either a Wimbledon title or a Australian Open title or a US Open title and he won all 3.

Probabely more important than this he was civil rights activist who helped during South Africa's move towards racial equality and away from apartheid. He also set up a charity for AIDS victems after he himself tragically contracted AIDS (Incidentally he later died from AIDS).

This man was a truely great man and tennis player.

That photo is overexposed - even her hair almost looks white. Shes obviously mixed like Blake, but you must be blind if you can't see shes also black.

I admit, I've read nothing of this thread, but ... is the title of this thread A JOKE?! Look, I can tell you're a teenager, and trying to feel things out, but people don't keep lists of the best black tennis players here. And they keep lists of a lot of other things, like players going bald. Really, kid, move on.

    wait . . . you're JOKING, right storm??

so you gotta look black to be black, is that it? and then . . . it doesn't really matter if you're from cape town or detroit or sau paulo or san juan . . . if you dark, then your *ss is "black", period.

Are you kidding? I must be blind? There is obviously nothing black about her. I have white friends with darker skin. Her hair, and I've seen many pics of her, does not denote "blackness". Maybe you should take a hike with this crap, ******.

Uh... is black a color? Certainly black isn't ethnicity if we're calling both aboriginees and Africans "black". Perhaps you should explain to me, smart guy, what black means. Last time I checked, it referred to dark skin or someone from African descent. I find that Evonne Goolagong is neither.

Yes, I liked him alot. Good guy, nice game.

Well Arthur Ashe and Yannick Noah pop to my mind before any others.

Somebody said Tsonga, well he has a big game, but the matter is, if he can put that big game toghether and go on and have a good run in a slam. I'll give him a few years.

Just because she is from Aboriginal descent doesn't mean she is, I mean, look at her, she is not black.

I thought we were discussing players who are dark skinned, also known as "black", yeah?

i guess that was my whole point. to say that someone is "black" is completely idiotic. not to mention it's inaccurate, though it is in common usage everywhere. it says very little about where someone is from, or what their lineage is.

Look, if blacks don't want to be called blacks then they should stop using the term themselves. What the hell do you expect someone to call your group if your group is using the term?

It's the same with the N word. I hear blacks throw out this word 30 times a minute. Then blacks will complain that the term is archaic and has no place in society. Blacks are keeping this word alive more than any other group.

It's time for all people to start taking responsibility for themselves and stop pointing the finger at others.

This thread could quickly devolve into a "what is race" discussion, a topic on which there are bound to be disagreements.

"Black" in the United States, isn't just color, as "Black" people have skin ranging from near white to dark brown, with all shades inbetween, including Goolagong's shade. Other distinguishing characteristics include generally broader noses, generally fuller lips, and generally coarser hair. I say generally to all of these things, because there are many exceptions and many examples of "Black" people who don't neccesarily possess all of these physical attributes. Of course, "Black" or African-American is also a culture.

Goolagong is aboriginal, so she is not "White", but whether she is "black" can be debated. She definitely would qualify as one of the best, if not the best, non-Whites to play tennis, but again, that's not the same as saying she is "Black." Much like a Japanese player would be non-white, but not "black."

Anyway, an interesting topic, which I'm sure will engage discussion.

There isn't any such thing as race per se.

There is no black gene, yellow gene, white gene or ruddy sky blue pink gene.

All there are is gene pools that were isolated for long periods and therefore members developed similar characteristics.

On the point of best black players (as defined by a colour obsessed society) I don't see how this can be debated.

Men = Arthur Ashe. Dot Rating 2687. His peak Dot rating makes him 17th highest male of the open era. Won three majors during the open era along with a further 2 majors as losing finalist, 5 as losing semi finalist and 5 as losing quarter finalist.

Women = Serena Williams. Peak Dot Rating 2797. Her peak Dot rating makes her 6th highest male of the open era. Won Eight majors during the open era along with a further 2 majors as losing finalist, 2 as losing semi finalist and 9 as losing quarter finalist.

these threads are retarded. so many people are so mixed these days it really doesn't even matter anymore. black and white are used to refer to people of african descent or european descent. it doesn't mean literally black skin since there are black people who are light skinned as well as white people who are dark skinned. roger federer's mother is from south africa, does that mean he is african swiss? is federer "half black"?

i dont understand the need for these ridiculous threads. they obviously provoke ignorant thoughts and and almost nothing constructive.

For the women I'd have to say Venus Williams. She has amazing talent and is quite athletic for a 6'1 woman. Serena on the other hand annoys the crap out of me.

The black men of ATP are all quite talented. (this is a positive stereotype). Monfils and Blake are faster than anyone I've ever seen!!! Not to mention Monfils can fly!! http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=158999&highlight=monfils+can+fly
Donald young is also an up&comer with amazing potential.

Evonne is multiracial, not black. Anyone can see that she's not a black woman. Is Roger Federer also black because he has dark hair? Has there been another poster who's agreed with natural? This black man doesn't agree that Evonne Goolagong is black because she's not.

We all know Goolagon is Aboriginal don't we?

Anyway, if you lot mean black as in African, Afro American and Afro Caribbean then I can think of:

    Althea Gibson
    Arthur Ashe
    Venus Williams
    Serena Williams
    Yannick Noah

I heard Donald Young has potential.

Chanda Rubin could have been a great player or at least a very good player if it wasn't for injuries.

US Fed cup captain Zina Garrison got to the 1990 Wimbledon final losing to Navratilova.

Gael Monfils so far has been a major disappointment for me. I hope he can turn his game around over the next 24 months and at least become competitive.

Blake, like a school report would say (not mine he he) - could do better.
