Didn't we have this thread before?

One of my favorites is Jennifer Paige's "Crush" by The Dismemberment Plan. A mindless, carefree pop song, deconstructed into a heartbreaking dirge just by downing the tempo and vocal expression.

Contrary to popular opinion, I prefer 'Expressway to your heart' by Amen Corner, rather than the original by The Soul Survivors.

Yes, I am a big Who also. Pearl Jam does them right. Eddie V. really gets into the tunes.

yeah the johnny cash version of hurt is awesome.

metallica did alot of great covers over the years, helpless, blitzkrieg, breadfan, killing time are my favourites with probably about 12 others.

I prefer the Run DMC/Aerosmith version of Walk this Way over the original Aerosmith version.

Ike & Tina version of Proud Mary is better.

Vanilla Fudge covered The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On" very well. They also covered Donovan's "Season Of The Witch".

Someone mentioned the Seger tune "Turn The Page" being covered. Before his prime, The Bob Seger System was not the first but did an awesome cover of Phil Spector's "River Deep Mountain High" first released by Ike & Tina Turner. Other acts that covered it include Deep Purple, The Supremes, Eric Burdon & The Animals and The Easybeats.

Not a fan of rap music (or country music for that matter), but I've always loved the Gourds "countrified" cover of Snoop Dog's Gin and Juice. If you've never heard it, definitely worth a listen. (EXTREME LANGUAGE WARNING)

Also really enjoy John Legend covering Bruce Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark. Don't listen to Legend normally but he absolutely slays it with this piano only version. It totally captures the poignancy of the lyrics.

Hallelujah originally by Leonard Cohen, covered by Jeff Buckley.

Also, liked Rufus Wainwright/Martha Wainwright (at Glastonbury 2007), John Cale and KD Lang's version.

    Butchered
    by Bono! Ouch!

Bon Jovi giving it ''The Bon Jovi Treatment'' was in a way so much better compared to Bono! Sorry Bono, but...

Somewhere out there, Bono even acknowledged how he butchered it! I think lots of American Idol contestants did a very good job making it their own.
