Found Mr. Hunting.
just got 2 yonex rdx 500 mids for donating some clothes and crap from the garage to a salvation army type stoor. straight up. on another note. does anyone have any info on these frames. i love the cosmetics. putting some leather grips on them and maybe some lead tape under the grips
This thread inspired me to go to the local goodwill and do some searching.
Got a Wilson Graphite Matrix (grey blue) 85 strung w/cover in 8/10 condition and a Pro Kennex Golden Ace w/cover in 10/10 condition in four visits. Passed up on a racket that seemed like T2000 mimic (had a Sears label on the side, so couldn't recognize it).
Good few weeks overall!
Best haul so far today.
Jack Kramer Autograph Mid 10/10 w/cover
Yamaha White Gold 90 9/10 w/cover, just a few scratches on the inside of the hoop
Davis Imperial Deluxe 10/10
Mizuno Pro Light 8.4 Oversize 8/10
Prince Pro Oversize 8/10
Any comments on how they play, resale value?
^that kramer mid is a great frame. I know everyone ragged it for being unstable, but to me, it feels great and it is a little easier to play woth than a 65 sq in head.
I do not know anything about resale. Most collectors say, "Play with it if it has been strung. Hang it up if it is truly new."
Unreal. Wilson ProStaff 6.0 Midplus 95" brand new with sales card and plastic on the grip, with case. Found it at a local used sporting goods store. The funny thing is, I went in there a few months ago and told her there was a lot of interest in the classic frames market. She was totally unaware, but said she would look into it. Go back in, lo and behold.
Email me at email@example.com if you're looking for more info...
Wow, this would be a dream find for me. Congratulations, you really lucked out on this one!
well, how much?
Did I pay? A Hamilton.
Woaw! This one?
...and there I was feeling a tad jealous ;-)
I found a Wilson Jimbo T2000 for $1 at my local 7 mile fair. with original leather grip and all.
Got a Wilson 6.1 Pro Staff Classic with the white butt cap for $2.99
You guys are incredible!
I'm assuming all the posters here live in Florida or Texas or California.
I am from Ontario, Canada
WA state, if you can believe it.
The Netherlands actually.
. . . well, the times I've looked, I only find dimestore or department store racquets. Just junk.
I once found a nice looking Prince Original Graphite mid. . . but it was horribly cracked! and the store wanted $15.
Found a rather nice Head TXE today, for $4.99. And yes, it was in Northern California.
This today was $6 SILVER FOX
But over the years I have found so many, sold a heap for way more than acquisition and paid off the cost of my entire collection after 7 years....
Now just selling for extra cash since the economy has gone pear shaped,
Starting at $80 online with a bid so should do OK
I havn't posted anything here in the past months, but there were a few nice ones to report. Let's start with 2 nice woodies:
Not sure what the Astro Super is, but it is in almost perfect condition, nice looking frame with matching cover:
Also really nice is this Tad Davis Lady Elite:
continued with some Graphite classics:
Break - Plus 50 Graphit... Break was a no-name brand of the Swiss Supermarket chain Migros... and that racket is lovely - very classic, solid feel! If anybody has an idea, what it could be... I know that some breaks had been made by Snauwaert and I seem to remember, that some stuff was produced by Fischer...
Adidas Magister - most stylish pj ever, black and a red stripe, what else would you want?
And another classic, black beauty: Tony Trabert C-6 Middy
and a few more:
No introduction needed, I suppose... well used and showing it, but rock solid!
Equally solid, but less popular: APT Comp (85)
and lastly, a real classic it seems: Yonex R-7: I havn't hit yet and still need to read up on it a bit...not the nicest looking frame with its big head though:
my problem now is - where the heck do I keep my frames and how is do I prevent my wife from going (completely) crazy?
R-7 was Martina's frame of fame.
I am most curious about this one. It is a Fansteel OEM, just like the standard C-6 (though not all Tony Trabert frames were made by Fansteel). However, all the ones I've come across so far have been labeled "Middy" only. I wonder if this example is an early version, or something specific to the European market. It is really an excellent playing frame, and one of the first (if not THE first) 'mid'-sized 100% graphites made!
Would love to find something like this at my local thrift stores, but they have had absolutely nothing worth having on the shelves for over a year now. Tennis racquets have become so popular that anything of value is snatched directly from the distribution carts after the latter have been wheeled into the showroom, before the clerks even had a chance to put them up on the shelves! All of my local GWs have also raised prices on their racquets this year, some by significant margins. I learned from the clerks that they pack up excess inventory and sell them to distributors, who in turn sell them to other thrift stores that may be short on donations (or don't accept donations). So even if my local stores received tons of cool stuff (some of them receive so much that they use trailers in the back to store the excess before shipping them off), there is no guarantee that I would ever see these gems in the same stores.
I know it has become an utter waste of time to frequent these stores nowadays, yet the pull is still too strong to fight off whenever I come near one, no matter where I go. It's an addiction for sure, but thankfully a relatively harmless one ...
Best Deal Ever!
Prince Original Graphite OS in pristine condition.
Can't recall offhand, but think it's either circa 1981 or 1986 for $1.99
I still play with it and it comes in at 12.9 oz!
Got an unused Borg Pro off kijiji for $25
Wilson Hammer 5.2 Classic MP
Picked up this Wilson Hammer 5.2 Classic MP from a thrift store ($21) for a friend who played with it about 20 years ago.
Too head-heavy and not my cup of tea but the purple-black paint job is cool.
Buddy of mine got a PC600 fo $5... he's like, "so is this thing any good?" Told him that many consider it to be the best racquet of all time.
It hit like a dream and he sold it you know where
I picked up one at a Sallie Ann about two years ago for a buck, but of course, a slight bit of warp.
Nice find on the Adidas. I wish I could find one of those the thrift stores I frequent.
BREAK had several manufacturers producing rackets including Caldon ( mono shaft fibreglass racket made by a company that was founded by Callenette and Donnay).
This Plus 50 looks like a Cloud racket but the name suggests a Kuebler made frame....?
Not tennis, not classic. I wanted to share a squash racquet I just picked up for $3.
I thought that the Thrift Store crowd would appreciate this find. It also came with a pair of safety glasses and two squash balls. It looks to have been used maybe once.
Max 300i for $5
Thrift stores, mmmm

Prince Graphite II Oversize
Dunlop XLT, Fischer Twin Tec Pro $3 cdn (mint), Pro Kennex Boron Ace $3 cdn (mint)
Wow, Chris! Nice haul - not all at the same time, I am guessing.
Should you ever find you can't stand the sight of that Twin Tec Pro anymore, please give me a holler.
(I still like the Twin Tec- it's kinda neat looking)
Yes there's more, but here's a strange one-
Head String-Lock Edge Metal
but where are the String-Locks?
Rre String locks
They are small metal inserts so you could replace a single string in the string bed by using the locks, really Al wedges to hold tension.
It didnot work for me when I serviced one during that time period. But for the Metal Edge users, you just strung it as a normal frame.
I found a really nice st. vincent ps 85 today at Goodwill. Has JAQ on the butt. I can't wait to play with it!
i got 2 pro staff 85's at a thrift shop for 5 each with the zippered bags.. been playing with them for 10 years now
Sweet...I never get that lucky...
it was a church sale.. the lady hesitated when i asked her the price, like she was feeling if $5 might be too dear.. i was very tempted to sell one a few years back.. it seems that prices have definitely dropped on these for some reason.. i always thought the market would grow.. the bigger head craze has probably caused a ripple effect.
Just picked up Head A Ashe Competition, Dunlop Black Ace, old 70s Prince oversize, with green, $7 each.
Not the thrift store, but for thriftstore prices:
Bumperless model, just a few scrapes on the top of the hoop.
Here is what I found at the thrift store today!!
All mint unused and $2 dollars each.
Covers only !
That's a Belgium PS 85 made by Donnay in Couvin, Jaap...!!!
Latest score from the thrift store, buck fifty each. The Ergonom is new, the two others are hardly used.
Separate names with a comma.
