I've only included the movies I saw and that have a chance of winning an Oscar and/or Golden Globe.

I don't get the fuss about The Dark Knight. It would be a total piece of **** without Heath Ledger. Even though he was in there, but the storyline was still meaningless.

My picks are journey to the center of the earth and definitely maybe

The Dark Knight for sure, I'd been anticipating it ever since seeing the first promotional image of Bale in the new batsuit.

    1. Burn After Reading. Those Coen brothers make fun of everything....and well. Not just a typical crime-gone-wrong flick. Genius. Idiocracy for the grownups.

    2 things:

    1. Rosebud is gone, so how do they make a second movie?
    2. Didn't Welles die years ago?

    The Dark Knight.

You should have put Wall E up there; it is one of the few animated films that is in the running for best picture. Fantastic film.

"Slumdog Millionaire" was the big winner yesterday at the Critics' Choice Awards. I had a difficult enjoying this movie because this ****** behind me was talking on his phone.

    The Dark Knight for sure!!

But I'd like to also mention 'Taken' starring Liam Nielson as a great action/thriller film.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Oddly, I was not disappointed at all in Twilight and I think those negative critics were off the mark on Valkerie.

From Sweden, "Let The Right One In"...trust me and watch it. Not every good movie is an overblown Hollywood special effects cash cow.

DArk knight is simply untouchable, other movies, hardly come close, in fact dark knight is several classes above the rest of the movies in 2008.

The Dark Knight is the best movie of 2008. It's funny how critics and audiences rarely agree in which movies they feel are the best.

    What's a "fil"?

And no, not the best film ever made. One of the best, if not the best Superhero film of all time? Yes. One of the best overall films ever made? Not a chance in hell.

Wall-e was the best movie and beats Dark Knight by miles. It is just such a sweet story.

I was going to start a new thread about this since recently watched Dark Knight and just shook my head at the predictability and use of the same ol formula. I had high expectations after all the critical acclaim not to mention the feedback from friends at work (including one guy who said he was stunned and left with his jaw open at the end; ugh). I am glad I didn't pay to watch this at the theatre. It is absolutely high on my list of worst movies and most disappointing. I can't believe people fell for this hype.

I think The Wrestler was probably my favorite. Micky Rourke's performance was amazing, and Darren Aronofsky makes some incredibly good movies. It's a shame his Batman project fell through.

Superbad was 07. There's a difference between liking a movie and it being the best movie (in this case the best of 2008 )

Its cool I mean it is your personal opinion. I think we're about the same age (15 I think) and if i asked most of my friends their favorite movie they would have said the same thing (Dark Knight, Pineapple Express ect ect ect.....).

I didn't get to see many comdies this year other than Step Brothers and I thought that sucked I was really disappointed. Dark Knight was really good, though I'm not crazy about it. Only saw it once unlike most people.

yeah im 15 too. I heard stepbrothers was a good movie lol, guess i'll have to see for myself. And your right about the DarkKnight...I saw it once, but I know this guy who went and saw it everyday for 3 weeks straight. Guy was addicted to the movie, he absolutely loved it. Its a good movie for sure, but seeing it everyday for 3 weeks...??

Pineapple Express bored me although I did manage to stay awake for it as my movie boyfriend was in it. ;)

I just saw The Hunting Party and although it was released in 2007, the fact that I watched it in 2009 qualifies it as an acceptable hat to toss in the ring (my own logical rationalization). Here is the trailer for those who haven't seen it yet - I highly recommend it.

Saw " GRAND TORINO" last night and what a great flick - the Hmong co/star went to high school with my son. Clint should get an Oscar for his performance.

slumdog millionaire for me. dark knight was a good movie, but thats about it, it wasn't an insightful movie that could help shape peoples perspectives of something, which is generally what I look for in a movie. Great entertainment, but of no value other then fun.

Probably why I liked frost/nixon as well, its amazing how many people my age have no clue what nixon did/said and what watergate was all about. the movie at least probably made some people curious and go google at home.

in batman, theres none of that, people might be enticed to go home and google batmobile lol. anyways, thats just my opinion and one of my criterias for judging movies.
