There are about 5 players in history who dominated tennis world for
nearly a decade. As I recall, the list is Laver, Pancho Gonzales,
Sampras, Bill Tilden and I forgot one. Guys like Laver and Gonzales
won neraly 20 majors if you count both amateur and pros.
Sampras is only one who was in fully professional era and had official ranking
while others ranking was unofficial (sometimes decided by votes or something like that).

Don't forget the ladies. Navratilova is a good choice for the women's side.

The answer is General Zod. Unbeknown to many people, General Zod's Kryptonian insurection started from a tennis match dispute with Jorel. Now ya know. ;)

    PS: Vote for Zod 2008

Haven't seen this list before. LOVE IT! Classic...just shear brilliance. Well done. (For those of you who don't like it...we all need to learn to laugh at ourselves once in awhile.)

Roger Federer is the best player I have seen between the lines.

Other than him, I am more impressed with McEnroes career than Sampras'. Also, Borg's Wimbledon/French dominace is equally impressive.

I guess you did not take the time to do a search, correct?

All you need to do is punch in the acronym GOAT and you will find hundreds of threads on the topic.

Great thread bizzle! This hasn't been discussed at all on any forum in the entire world. Especially here at the TT forums. Thanks for taking time to write about who the GOAT is. :p

I think that there is a difference between the "best" and most dominant player at any given time. I think the Sampras is the best player of all time even though he didn't dominate the proffesional tennis scene like Rod Laver did.

Yes, Sampras was one of the best of all times, maybe number three, according to this study:
