Tell us your best tennis moments you have seen over the years!
One of mine was when Becker was playing Ivanisevic at Wimby (the year escapes me) and Becker was getting hammered by Ivans serve, but then Boom Boom went up a gear, gave him some serving stick back and the tide turned and Becker won. It was amazing to watch Becker go up a gear and expose Ivans game to just a serve.

I've only been watching tennis now for about a year and a half now, so mine will be pretty recent. Mine is the Bagdatis-Nalbandian match at this years AO, when the rain delay happened.

Live? Pam Shriver upsetting Martina Navratilova in the 1982 U.S. Open quarterfinals. Martina was really on a roll; had seemed unbeatable that year, and crushed Pam in the first set. But Shriver hung on, Martina seemed to slack off a little, and Shriver pulled it out in three. I was way up in the upper deck at Louis Armstrong stadium, but the atmosphere was completely electric as Shriver took the lead in the third set and pulled it out. Simply amazing.

With the surface speed/bounce "adjustments" do you think so many people are really that surprised?

Fed winning 1st set 6-0 at 2006 Wimbledon against Nadal. Doesn't get much better than that!

Fed cried like a baby after losing in Australian open final to Nadal, thus ending his no.1 reign to the young Spaniard.

Thats a very valid point. I also think that those factors are the nails in the coffin for the serve and volley game. Henman has said that he wont come to the net anymore and Dent is just about washed up.

Its kind of sad...but Nadals future looks pretty damn good because of it. I dont think Nadal would have had a chance on the old grass courts and old hard courts but now with slower surfaces he may go down as the greatest player in history. Time will tell but the future is definitely in baseline tennis.

    1. Jimmy Connor's amazing point v Paul Haarhuis at QF of 1991 USO

    2. Todd Martin's celebration after coming back from two sets down to beat Moya at the 1999 USO. First he smashed his racquet, then he let out a scream heard 'round the world, which was followed by a post mid-night victory lap around Arthur Ashe stadium in which he high-fived the fans.

All of the moments mentioned are very valid, maybe with the exception of Roddick winning the US Open. I don't really see why that could be considered as one of the best moments in tennis, it was kind of expected after him winning virtually everything in the build up and playing a very tired Ferrero on a surface that he wasn't totally comfortable on. Each to their own though.

My vote would have to go to Gaudio beating Coria in the 2004 Roland Garros final. The way he was down and out for the first two sets against the person who had owned clay all season long, then coming back in the third and Coria cramping in the fourth and then getting back to full health near the end of the fifth.

That match had everything from poor play, to fantastic stuff, a mexican wave that awoke Gaudio, and a thrilling finish where Gaudio saved 2 match points to win 8-6 in the fifth.

It was special too for the fact that Gaudio had been close to quitting earlier in the year when a sports physciatrist got hold of him and turned him into a new player mentally, he was always talented but an absolute nutter. Beating Canas, Novak, Enqvist, Andreev, Hewitt, Nalbandian and then Coria was a great achievement.

Coria was dominant on the clay that year and the match was supposed to be over in around an hour and Coria have the first of many RG titles, 3 hours 30 minutes later the underdog had done what many people thought impossible in beating Coria on clay.

It would be similar to Nadal losing in the final of Roland Garros to Chela or Martin who are clay courters who are of a similar ranking to where Gaudio was when he won.

So for the bizzare match and fairytale ending that has to be my favourite tennis moment of recent years, although Goran winning in 2001 does come pretty close!

I'd have to go with Goran's Wimbledon win as well. Gave me the chills.

    Also:

    Chang vs. Lendl, '89 French
Forget def. Sampras, Davis Cup '91 (?)
Sabatini def. Graf, US Open '90
Petr Korda bringing iced towels to Shuzo Matsuoka, US Open '92 (?)
    Dementieva's speech, US Open '04
Connors vs. Haarhuis, US Open '91 (yes, that point)

    and others....

I have to say it's when Sampras came out of nowhere to win his first U.S. open against agassi, just because that moment was what gave birth to Sampras' domination of the mens games for years to come after that.
