I was recently shopping arround for a good players frame but I am a poor college student and can't afford to pay $200 for a racquet. I have seen some older style frames such as the pro staff 85 and the prince original graphite (both the mid and oversize) for arround $130. Are these frames still viable today? Are newer racquets really worth the extra $70? Tell me what you think and if you have any other ideas about good players frames for arround $130 please let me know. Thanks for your thoughts.

There are a lot of great racquets for $80-$100. Use the sale racquet finder in the lower-mid of the front page to select by price/gripsize.

I would stay away from the midsizes as they are going to be very unforgiving. Check out TW Chris' POG OS review on the project page if you haven't yet and are curious.

    Prince Diablo Mid for $99.

I have both older and new POGs in both the mid and OS and prefer the feel of the Diablo. Spin isn't quite as extreme as the POG but it is still really good. There are a couple good threads on the diablo - one from just a few months ago. http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=441355

And if you are willing to go used you should be able to get any current stick from the classifieds here for under $130.

^^^ or the Pure Storm GT (also 99.99), if you want something a little lighter. Another good option is the Head Microgel Radical MP (89.95). Both of these are fairly lightweight but have excellent control and take lead very well if you want to beef them up a bit.

No way in hell are the new rackets worth the extra $70. If anything, they're worth less.

The ProStaff 85 is a good buy, and is viable in today's game, depending on your play style, but there are better things to get.

Both variations of the POG are certainly viable and are both very good rackets.

The Radical Midplus with some modifications are very good rackets.

Also, many older Dunlop rackets are very good.

^^ this. Many people at my club have moved on to this frame and are loving it.

Also, the Boris Becker Delta Core London Tour & Melbourne are great player frames for $79 & $59, respectively.

If you have big hands or are willing to buy some pallets you can get the old c 10 pro dirt cheap. That is another classic that is still playable in addition to the pog and the diablo.

I'd say look at the Dunlop range (obviously).

Plenty of different head sizes and weights to suit most players and a recognised players brand.

Earlier this year I demoed what I considered the hot racquets for me. After figuring that out I checked out what matched in my price range from older models. I bought a new old stock racquet at tw $70 and a couple used at 35. I got dunlop 4d 200, microgel exterme, and prince speedport black.
With sports equipment I don't buy the newest unless there is a void I need filled that old can't do. Sometimes updating/modding/using old new stock or used isn't worth buying new model year.

Head Speed Pro. Incredible racquet. Looking for something better and haven't yet found it. I believe it's going for $80 on TW.

    Here's the deal:

    POG OS is the truth.

You can get them used in the Classified section for $50-$75 fairly regularly.

If that doesn't trip your trigger, look up at SFrazeurs's list.

Yeah me too....I bought two and hit with them tonight it's a big change from the vcore 89 I have been using...I forgot how awesome the c10 was for doubles...I had all sorts of reflex volleys I would have flubbed with the 89. The c10 can get a little wild if you hit too flat....the only thing I couldn't quite figure out was the lobs...anywho this I'd a great Raquet and I can't remember why I sold mine on fleabay ten years ago...this is a really great classic Raquet if you mate it with some low powered polys as Chris pointed out.

Just hit with mine today.. sweet.. As you said and Chris.. the frame is great with a lower power poly. I always wanted to own one.. now I have the two. If you are looking for that players frame in a 98 head size...this is the one. The serves just pop off the frame and they come in so heavy. Topspin is easy to generate. Mine is 12.2 oz...I did not add an overgrip yet... swings so easy!!!

    BTW.. they are all gone!!!
