This is my first time posting a negative reference. I was really hoping to avoid it, but this guy has left me no choice.

All the e-mails we've exchanged thus far are available in the document uploaded here - http://www.scribd.com/doc/135079056/Gmail-FS-K90-4-3-8-8-5-10?secret_password=1inn1h8877dtvql62v0j

I made the mistake of sending him the racquet before receiving payment. He seemed like a nice guy and was a local, so I believed him to be trustworthy. I couldn't have been more wrong.

I've got his phone number and mailing address (available in the link above). He has stopped responding to my e-mails and text messages and he doesn't pick up any of my calls.

I hope this reference saves someone a bunch of their time and money (or perhaps their K90s as that's the stick he seems to be after).

It is sad to see this forum starting to be infested with people like this.

Anyway, I've learned my lesson the hard way. Never buy from or sell to people without references and never ship a racquet out before receiving payment!

I'm going to send him a link to this reference. I hope he responds either by sending me the money he owes or by sending the racquet back to me.

    Thanks!

The name Nguyen might have been your first clue given the infamous Charles Nguyen episode. He even lives in the same area as Charles.

File a police report with his local (San Jose) police department for internet fraud. Unless he pays you, he is also guilty of mail fraud.
You can file a report on the FBI internet fraud site as well (online form). That might get his attention. You could also go to his house the next time you are in East San Jose and have a chat with mom and dad. (If that is his real address. The address may be a neighbor's or a friend's but it is probably his since he didn't know you were going to ship ahead of payment.)

    http://www.sjpd.org/ReportingCrime/OnlineReport/

    http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx

There is a good chance he is a student at Silver Creek HS. Worth a call to this fellow to see if he has someone with that name and address in his school. There are several public high schools in that area. I imagine he attends one of those. Silver Creek is the closest to that address though.

    http://schs.schoolloop.com/laguna (408 347-5600)

Also, the house was purchased in January. The buyer's agent was Anh Nguyen of Akimax Realty so that might possibly be a relative who can fill in the blanks for you.

And yes, shipping ahead of payment to a guy with no references is not recommended. The I can't pay you right now, my friend's PP account BS, etc were also warning signs. And don't do the PP gift thing. Always do the deal as For Goods. It is worth 3 points to get the Seller/Buyer Protection

I'm assuming this guy is a kid. $100 is all the money he has? He doesn't have a PP account, etc.

Did not see his phone number in the emails. If you google it, what turns up?

    Thanks for warning everyone else.

That's impressive detective work, FearsomeForehand! Thank you for taking the time to do it.

I will file those complaints online tonight. He lives just 20 miles away from where I live. I was thinking of paying him a visit, but I don't think it's going to be worth my time. I don't know what he's like and I don't want to deal with him any more, at least not in person.

He has posted a cell number in his posting here - http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=458919&highlight=alexnguyen408510

He responded to one of the messages I sent to that number saying that his friend had already transferred the money and that I should double check my paypal account. So it's definitely a number that he can be reached at. Not sure if it's a real cell number of a proxy one like the ones you get with google voice etc.

I'll give me a few of days to respond before I start making phone calls to his school and the real estate agent.

Huge thanks everyone for the support!

Probably a cell phone but could be VoiP. It is tied to Broadwing ( a service I have never heard of). It shows up at Los Gatos and San Jose depending on which number look up service you use.

I don't know for a fact that he is a kid. But, the odds are he is. There are several high schools in that area; Silver Creek, Overfelt, Hill, Yuerba Buena and Mt Pleasant are all within 3 miles of the mailing address. And trying to sort though all the Nguyens in SJ is like finding a needle in a haystack. Your best leads are the mailing address and the phone number.

At least your experience reminded everyone what not to do. You are too nice a guy for your own good. :)

95 cents? Might be worth it.

    http://www.peoplesmart.com/psp.aspx?_act=results

If you use a service like USSearch or PeopleFinders, you can do a trace on the address and probably get the parents' phone numbers and email addresses, work phone numbers, social security numbers, etc.

This is the contact info on the buyer's agent who was involved in the sale of the house in January. She might be a relative or at least know who bought the house and if they have a teenage son.

I got an e-mail from this guy yesterday. He has agreed to send me a money order on Saturday (Apr 13th). Hopefully, he isn't lying this time. Maybe he isn't a scammer after all. Perhaps it's his friend that is scamming him. Anyway, I'll post an update to this thread as soon as I receive payment.

Thanks everyone for the help! Special thanks to FF for the detective work and guidance on dealing with this issue.

Well, I hope he actually does send the money order. Make sure you give him the correct mailing address. If he sends it Saturday from San Jose, you should get it Monday in Fremont. I would suggest that he not send it regular mail but rather via something with tracking. Priority Mail Letter, Certified Mail, whatever. Priority will be about $5, Certified about $3. Otherwise, he will pull the it must have been lost in the mail nonsense. Not a great idea to send cash in the regular mail.

This person, whether a kid, or an adult, (he sounds like a kid) has totally jerked you around. I will be pleasantly surprised if you ever get paid.
Hopefully, the money order won't be in crayon. :)

Nope, not yet. Apparently, he went to the post office at 3:30 pm on Saturday and found that it was closed. He's not going to be able to go today either as he doesn't get out of school before 5:30. He has promised to go to the post office tomorrow and mail the money order. Hopefully, I'll get my money by a Wed. If not, I'll have to file those complaints and start making some phone calls.

Thanks for checking, FF! Will post an update on Wed.

If he was old enough to have a drivers license, he could borrow Daddio's wheels and hop on 280/680 and voila, you'd get paid. :)

Thanks for the offer, Centryx! Fortunately, that won't be necessary. I received a money order today for the amount that was agreed upon.

Many thanks to everyone that helped me get my money.

Glad to hear that you got paid. It wasn't pretty but at least you did not get scammed. (I hope the money order doesn't bounce.)

Please don't send a racket ahead of payment to anyone else again, even me. :)

^ Yes, I am beginning to feel sorry for the good Nguyens which is sort of the viet equivalent in terms of being a common name as Smith is for Anglos.
