i know there is a monster thread on BHB7. however i wanted to try the string and post a review separately as it would get lost in the larger thread.

    play tested BH black7 16gg in a prestige pro pro-stock stick (12.4oz 350sw, 7pt HL). strung on a stringway ML100 at 47/45 pounds.

    a quick review:
strung up OK, sharp on the fingertips when weaving crossing.

i have mixed feeling about this string. it comes down to sheering type shoots vs ball pocketing. what i mean by "sheering" is: BH slice, kick serve, droppers, sharp cross court top spin, the string performed well. when hitting "ball pocketing" type shots, flat serves, FH or BH drives the string did not pocket well or create "heavy spin". the direction control on "pocketing" type of shots is not as good as other strings.

additional note, on ball pocketing shots there is a lack of power compared to many other strings and it lacked control.

edit: the string did not have much lateral movement when striking a topspin drive. this is something i look for to know know the ball is dwelling for a long time.

for me the lack of good ball pocketing is a deal breaker. i could go to a lower tension but to me it feels like a square peg round hole issue.

Ball pocketing is dependent on tension. For a stiff string like BHB7, you really have to go low of pocketing. But that defeats the purpose of using a stiff, shaped poly.

For what you're looking for, you want a soft, power poly - not a stiff, spin poly.

    Hi,

I went about 52/50 with Gamma Syn Gut in the crosses (16 x 19 pattern) 100 head size and got very good results at that tension. My 1st playtest was 57/55 and the string played a bit stiff. My move lower really helped with ball pocketing and comfort. I had no lack of power on the second setup.. and got very good spin and comfort. The string tends to get a bit springy below 50. Good luck... very nice string for the money if it fits your game and frame.

Thanks for the review, did it feel similar to other polys you may have tried in the past?

not sure if it felt exactly like other polys. i would call it medium firm, not mushy and not real crisp either.

maybe in the cyclone 16 area.

it felt pretty much the same no matter how hard i swung. i like to feel a poly crisp up when struck hard, it gives me better feedback.

different strokes for different folks. no one string works for every player. like you, i'm not a big fan of this string either albeit for different reasons. for me, it's just not durable enough. it snaps after ~4hrs; about the same as syn gut.

It was one of the 1st multi-sided strings I tested. I have playtested a few since. Still the best one for spin I have ever used. Sorry I can't really compare it to anything else... quite a special string in my book. I just ordered some of the 16G and Cyclone 16G.

Agree with everything you said here. Lack of pocketing and mediocre feel for me. Spin is good but not spectacular. For the same price or better I will take MSV Focus Hex or BHBR over it any day. I get better spin from Tour Bite and would spend the extra money rather than buy another reel of BHB7.

    Jman32,

What are some other polys you've found that better met your preferences?

    Strings accourding to me:
I like Alu power, 4g. Both are expensive and I am trying to find alternatives. I bought a cheap reel of M2plus that turned out metter than i thought, it is running out.

Genesis Typhoon was really amazing the first 2 hours than it became only very good.

Tried silver rough 16 it is pretty good, better than black7, not as good as typhoon.

Did not like v-pro 16 at all.

Polylon is better than I thought it would be, did not have high hopes for it.

cyclone 16 was ok not great.
Did not like Xcode, too mushy
Sppp was good, a little too much power, I think tht one was in17gg. 16 might be better
    Silverstring was nice.
