I know Ojai is on the Pac 12 Network starting in a few minutes but it doesn't look like it's getting streamed anywhere. The UCLA/USC match from last night will be the Pac 12 Network tonight.

Ohio State has never had sound unfortunately.

who is this guy playing on #1 court for Ohio ? He is playing serve and volley, very tall dude. He looks so slow, I think I can move faster than him.

this Kobelt guy is not good enough to play #1 spot. he may cost Ohio the NCAA title.

Michigan could lose this B1G championship match in a big hurry
#3, 5, and 6 are all close to finishing in Buckeye win column.
At #1 Kobelt won a tie breaker in the first set over King.
At #2 Rola and #4 McCarthy both are on serve at 4-4

Match finished 4-0 and Big Ten Title to OSU with Buckeye wins at #3, 5, and 6.

Funny you mention Kobelt not being good enough...
Last year many persons were accusing OSU's Tucker of "stacking" the lineup by placing Peter in the #3 spot.
After Kobelt defeated an undefeated at the time Mitchell Frank of Virginia did the finger pointing stop.

Yep, because he "only" won the first set 7-6 over a guy who is 40-1 in his last 41 dual meets, he is horrible. It makes perfect sense.

Congrats to the Northwestern Women, winning the Big 10 title and defeating two teams they lost to during the regular season (Nebraska, Michigan) in the process.

Seriously? And what's her record like? Or is she a sacrificial lamb?

She won the match I watched against Indiana singles as she had a great back court game. In doubles she lost her serve most games although she had a great net game, she looked pretty small about 5'5ish maybe

She has fairly good record - not dominant, but hardly a sacrificial lamb. She's currently ranked 51 by the ITA.

The player is senior Kate Turvy, and I did a quick google search. Apparently, she's been doing this since high school - underhand slice serve -- but not exclusively. One article referred to Turvy using her "underhand and overhead" serves. So, maybe she came to use it exclusively in college, or maybe she has only used it exclusively recently or simply for some matches and not others. I can actually see an underhand slice serve giving some opponents problems and simply annoying others. You're not going to get aced or suffer many service winners, but there's also not much you can do with it if it stays low and you have to hit up. Slice it back, drop shot, or stand way in and come to net. Based on Turvy's record it seems some players figure it out, some don't, though there's obviously more to her game than the serve.

One more edit - read the article about NU's win over Indiana at Big 10 tournament and it said that Turvy does serve exclusively underhand now because of a shoulder injury:

"[Indiana coach] Loring said that Klyczek’s matchup was a challenge for her due to the contrast in their play styles. He said that Turvy suffered a shoulder injury and can’t serve overhand.

'When you’ve never played against someone who cuts the ball like that it’s tough,' he said. 'It’s a tough serve and she’s perfected it.'"

Sounds like former Clemson player Ina Hadziselimovic(who btw would be the answer to Feddys earlier query and GSOM's query as well). Her toss never went above her head and she just cut it each time. She played 3 and had ITA ranking in the top 50.

Apparently this is Michigan State's first ever NCAA tournament appearance.
They have a very nice indoor facility. They should definitely be better.

That's really surprising to hear. I know a couple of guys who played there. And they can flat out play. Always thought of that team as a top 50-75 type program. Never paid enough attention to not know they never made the show till now.

I didn't know until I went to their website today. They were the very last team in, got in over SDSU and Columbia. SDSU would have got in had they not lost to New Mexico in the MW tournament. And I guess Michigan State's win over Nebraska was enough to pip them over Columbia.

Post an NCAA update for your favorite big ten team. Minnesota advanced today with a tight win over VCU. They face VA tomorrow

Illini over Georgia State 4-0, Tomorrow it's Vandy and if they win that then they get to come home for the round of sixteen at Champaign where the NCAA championships are to be played out.

MSU also beat Vandy early in the season. That had to weigh heavilly in their selection too.

Ohio State has a very competitive non conference schedule next year with Kentucky, Texas A&M, and North Carolina coming in to CBus and the Bucks going to Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Georgia.

Penn State added 2 transfers this year along with 5 freshmen. The transfers are Michael Reilly (UNC Wilmington) and Leonard Stakhovsky (Oklahoma). Reilly played at 6 sporadically over the last couple of years while Stakhovsky saw a good bit of action at 5 and 6. PSU write up.

Penn State's lack of a decent indoor facility (they have four squeezed-in courts in a '70s building) will mean that they will always be looking for the leftovers that the other Big 10 schools don't scoop up.

I think the Big Ten needs to do something about this tournament. Frequently teams don't attend or send their best players which makes the tourney a bit of a joke. My Golden Gophers are sending their 6-10 players and other teams do the same. With many chances to play in the fall they should make all Big Ten teams send most of their best players

Yeah, it's crazy to see the level go down there. There are still some really nice players in the event, but I would want to play everyone. Especially since guys go home for the break and may not get in a competitive match from Regionals all the way to mid-January...then be expected to open well against good teams. Don't get it at all.

B1G with a solid showing at the National Team Indoor Tournament from tOSU, coupled with a more than credible performance by Illini who has a win over Pepperdine, and though Illini dropped 2 close matches to Oklahoma and Texas A & M, their resume includes several other solid victories over Notre Dame, Texas A & M, Clemson, and Michigan.

edited to replace UVa with Oklahoma
