I've been wanting to try this string for some time, but accounts that it dies pretty quick has kept me away. Also, the tension maintenance is supposed to be good, so that sounds like it turns into a board in a full setup.

What I'm wondering is if a synth or multi cross would go easier on a BM main and give the setup longer lasting playability? Anyone out there who's used a BM hybrid?

It dies pretty quick, though its more noticeable in a full bed.

In a 96, the 17 lasts maybe 5-6 hours of hitting before I want to cut it out. It starts feeling low powered, a bit tinny and unforgiving.

In a 100 with nylon crosses, obviously the effect is less noticeable, but I don't think a dead poly does any favors to your arm.

    So Torres,
Do you think the Black Magic is old tech at this point? Should I put it out to pasture and look elsewhere?

I think its a good string. Don't get me wrong, even in a hybrid after 10 hours, its still perfectly playable. Its just that the poly has lost tension, the nylon has stretched so everything is a bit more spongey so you don't get that same 100% confidence as when fresh. But you can say that about any poly/nylon bed.

I'd suggest giving it a go along with Cyclone 16, Sonic Pro Edge and PTS. All similar types of poly but with sufficient differences to suit the individual preferences of the particular player. ZX is also a great cross to use with these polys.

I'm with you up until the last part. That sounds very expensive!

Ah, but its a great cross. Doesn't stretch and lose tension like a nylon string does! Apparently the material its made from (PEEK) is about 10 times more expensive than nylon.

I was referring to the loose poly mains laying the expensive ZX crosses to waste. Yes, I'm paying attention to the forum. :p

LOL. Some truth in that...But you ought to try it and the other polys well and make up your own mind. It will be interesting if nothing else. ;-)

If I were to use ZX, I'd string it in the mains with a good tension multi in the crosses. ZX is supposed to perform like a poly, so I'd use it like I would use a poly.
