YT "Jimmy" Wang is 6-3, *3-2 on on James.. He allowed james to break back at *2-1 by throwing a double fault on BP! James is 0/11 (or something like that) on break points ... (not counting the donation from wang)

WTF, first Hewitt, then Roddick, now Blake. It must be the year of the challengers. Sigh Might as well get me that Baghdatis is # 1 sign while they are still on sale.

And Agassi too, who lost to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez a couple of weeks ago.

(The same Garcia-Lopez that Andy just handled in straight sets in the first round here)

Now, if only all those lower-ranked guys could catch up to Federer as well ;-)

Like Federer admitted himself after the AO, he said he doesn't expect the established players like Roddick, Hewitt or Agassi to challenge him in the future but more likely an unknown lower ranked player will. So Federer better watch out for these guys that are currently playing on the challenger circuit! ;)

Jimmy Wang-chungs tonight :) A shame about James, though. He played so well at Davis Cup.

It's still early in the year, and to be honest, Blake is not yet a Top 10 player. Although he has the potential.

True + he's supposed to have some kind of mental and emotional letdown after his DC-tie with his 2 wins. Still, if he wants to become a top 10 player he has to win these matches!

This was indeed a pathetic display. He's just never going to be an elite player if he doesn't start routining these lesser players. He has to have the attitude that he's gonna blow these guys off the court in 50 minutes and then do it.

Being a Blake fan is frought with highs and lows. Ho hum....:(

Wang actually could have easily won 6-3, 6-4. He was up 5-4 in the 2nd set and serving for the match and he was two points away from winning the match a few times (could have also had a match point or two but I was watching the live scoreboard online and it only refreshes every minute or two). Blake was actually lucky to get it to 5-5 in the 2nd set.

I watched Blake practicing on Monday night and he looked great so I don't know what happened. You would think that with his two easy wins in the Davis Cup just a couple of days ago that his confidence would be sky high. Wang must have played a helluva match! I wish I was there to see it in person.

Actually BP, wasn't Blake like 0-11 on bp's. Sounds like all blake need to do was win a couple of those and the result may have been reversed.

Possible, not really sure as I didn't see it live. I did notice that Wang had lots of game points that he didn't convert on also. Like he'd be serving up 40-15 and Blake would manage to get it to deuce. Noticed that a few times.

Could these recent results be an indicator of the much talked about "parity" on the ATP tour?

Just read in the paper that Blake was 2 for 12 on break points last night, so yes, he definitely had his chances. But I guess this guy Wang must be also pretty mentally tough to save so many break points.

blake also had 42 or 43 unforced errors...that couldn't have helped either...

wang seemed to have a lot of break chances though when i was following the match using the online scoreboard on the SAP Open website

    I saw the match...

My impression was that Blake kept going for the big winner and made more errors. Wang did a Lleyton Hewitt on Blake. He seemed to be faster than Blake, and seemed to have more time to select his shots. I was surprised that he handled Blake's power so casually... plus he didn't make mistakes... which made Blake go for more power.

Thanks for the report. What do you think are Jimmy's chances to beat Murray tonight?

I didn't think that was humanly possible. Blake is just about the fastest guy on the tour. Wang must have played an incredible match.

I'd guess pretty good. Murray's not reached a level of consistency yet, he can still throw in some bad matches at times.

That said, he's still a pretty heavy favorite.

I heard that Wang was super consistent and was actually faster than Blake. So Blake tried to outhit him, but ended up playing a horrible match. Blake is not as mature/seasoned as he thinks he is. He has a long way to go to be like Agassi, shaving his head was just a start.

I think his chances are very good. I will be going there tonight if I manage to get off work in time.

I read you, BP. Wang shocked me with his speed and consistency. His service, though nowhere near as fast as Blake's, was placed extremely well. I was thinking, this is it, Blake's going to come back, but he never did...

Blake definitely did have a bad day, and I am guessing that this must been one of Wang's better matches.

Blake blows hot and cold, once you get into that mindset you never stay consistent on the Tour, no Plan B and little margin for error with James's game. Still a big asset to the tour, a cool dude.

At his best he can give anyone trouble, including Federer. He hits HUGE. At his worst, he tries to finish points off too quickly and misses the lines. A good defensive player can beat him on those days. If he was playing like that against Nadal at the US Open, we wouldn't have had that classic Agassi match.
