The last serve and volleyer of this era vs. arguably the best returner!
    Who will win?

I'd say it's quite a difficult match up for Llodra, because Ferrer is such a good returner and knows how to hit a passing shot. Nevertheless, if Llodra catches fire and serves good, you get the feeling the match is in his hands and anything can happen.

I'm saying Ferrer in 3 but I'm rooting for Llodra.

Ferrer in 2. Would be very surprised at any other outcome. Llodra is having a good week but is not an elitle singles player, just a good one.

Up until now Llodra has played mainly huge, aggressive players. He's taken them off guard by absorbing their huge serves and ground strokes and sending them back with varying pace and spin and rushing the net. Ferrer is a much different opponent than any of these guys, he's not going to be taken off balance nearly as easily, and won't try to hit him off the court like the other guys has. If he wants to beat Ferrer he's going to have to actually outplay him, the fancy stuff won't work as well here.

Tsonga won some good netpoints....Miche who is a better volleyer can pull it off.

Haha if we finally get a MS 1000 winner that isn't one of the Big 4, it might as well be a complete surprise like this!

I like Llodra's game but Ferrer takes this in two. I am thrilled that Ferrer has a realistic chance to win a M1000. I picked Ferrer to win the WTF before the Paris Masters began and if he wins the title here, it should really give him a huge confidence boost for the WTF.

Hope the winner of this game wins the title.

I love both guys. I like Llodra's game a lot better, but Ferrer's career deserves a masters shield (albeit the wrong one, should be Rome or MC of course)

Ferrer's chances of winning the WTF are pretty much ruined by his decision not to tank here like the rest of the Top 8. He played 5 matches last week in Valencia, another 4-5 this week in Paris, and then he'll have to start the WTF either Monday or Tuesday with practically no rest between them.

Against the other guys who will all be much better-rested, I can't see making it out of the RR. He might be well-advised to tank WTF and at least get some rest before the DC final, where he'll be by far Spain's best HC player.

No, this is a smart decision for Ferrer. He is not going to win the WTF so he may as well try and win his first Masters 1000 title while all the other top guys are out.

Being a Pete fan and someone who loves Serve and Volley tennis the romantic in me wants to see Llodra pull this off and I will be rooting for him but it's a tricky matchup and Ferrer will never have a better chance to win that elusive first Masters 1000 title!

I agree actually. He has a much better chance at getting 600-1000 points here against these scrubs than he would against the best players at the WTF (where he'd need to reach the Semis or Final). But I was responding to a post that claimed Ferrer was setting himself to win the WTF by going deep in Paris, which is obviously a pretty stupid notion (especially since he also just won Valencia).

Oh ok, I did not read the whole thread. :)

LOL at people saying if he wins Paris he is setting himself up to win the WTF!
Regardless of what happens his chances of winning the WTF are slim to nil.

Don't think Ferrer will lose. He's a good returner plus he hits good passing shots, unlike Querrey who wasted so many chances.

This is the main reason Ferrer will win. Llodra keeps coming to the net and Ferrer is going to eat that for lunch once he warms up.

Great tennis. Both players playing at a high level and contrast in styles. Reminds me of the Mcenroe Wilander duels of the late 80s.

Not to mention LLodra has won 23 return points in 3 games, but was unable to break.

It's a shame, an early break would've been good for the match. Now LLodra will run out of steam rather soon than late.

No it's me. I genuinely think Llodra is broing. I can't stand S&V every single point. One sided play is a definite no for me. Gimme someone who can mix up their play like Federer.
