LOL. Pure drive 2012 is Great for 1-handed backhand. It is very maneuverable and easy to control on the 1-hander. It's specs have really changed in 2012.

I'm not sure I'm in a position to recommend sticks based on a stroke. What advantages are you looking for from your racquet and what is your current frame and string set up?

There are numerous players hitting one handers with our frames.

I currently play with the BLX prostaff 95, but al looking to get more power out of my stick with not much loss in control.

I am going to be demoing the prostaff 95s, but would also like to try some babolat and other bran offerings before deciding.

What would you recommend for more power, without losing too much control when compared to a Wilson stick?

I also prefer more open string pattern, if that helps! :)

    Thanks!

That's a great stick. Stay away from the APD/PD lines.

I would think the Pure Storm or Pure Control could be interesting. The Strike 98 (16x19) should be added to the list, but it isn't out until Spring.

    I'll give these a try, thanks :)

Out of curiosity, why about the PD/APD?

Because there is nothing more different on the earth from your PS than an apd or pd.

Both great sticks but a different animal than what you're used to :)

What would you recommend for more power, without losing too much control when compared to a Wilson stick?

Plus you had the above in your request and the apd or pd offer a good deal less directional control.

Well, the thing is, I've never played with anything outside of the prostaff lineage... Was brought up with it! So I would be open to trying completely different sticks!

Thanks a lot for the info though! :)

Hi Daniel, do you know if the Play play-testers should still expect a new email about it this week? Thanks!

How much lead tape should I use to bring up the specs of the pure strike 100 to that of the pure strike 98? And at which positions should I add the lead tape?

Very different than your current set up. If you're only looking for a small change...they would be big.

We're waiting on an app update to be finalized. We'd planned for this week, but probably won't be until next. Racquet may start shipping end of next week. I'll let you guys know when things actually happen.

From a static weight perspective, you need to 15 grams.

Do you have access too an RDC or do any local shops?

Depending on where you put it will affect the swing weight and balance. Shoot me an email dbecker@babolat.com and I'll get specific advice from our customizer.

I'm not against big changes though :)
Have only used the prostaff lineage, so would like to give some other brands a shot too :)

In that case, try the APD and PD as well. Worst case scenario, you'll know the power and feel people are referencing. I would recommend custom stringing.

    Daniel-

Regarding the Babolat Play....as with most tech products, I assume there will be bugs discovered soon after its release that need to be worked out..is there a way for updates/fixes to be made as to help with that? I assume there will be with the app, but is there risk of bugs being discovered in the technology within the racquet itself? Something a simple app update wouldn't solve? Dunno if that makes sense....like iOS 7 comes out, then there's a few bugs, they release iOS 7.1, etc.

I'm just wondering, especially with it being the first racquet of this kind, will it be worth it to drop that much money, only to have a few technology issues come up that can't be fixed, and I would have been better off waiting a few months until those bugs are cleared up?

The app functions just as any type of application that you download from the App store or Google Play (facebook, shazaam, gmail). You get a query to update it and you choose to (or ignore them if you're my girlfriend). In terms of firmware for the racket, we have the ability to update if necessary (by plugging directly into your computer).

In addition to our internal testers, we have a group a 300 or so product testers and one of their responsibilities will be continuing to debug.

Thats cool. Interesting about the SW as that is the most important spec.

Pretty sure the SWs are pretty high. I think Nadal's posted SW is 355. But regardless, it is crazy how pro racquet static weight used to be 355 and up and are now on average 345 and under in this list.

Just came across with this in the RSI magazine of this month. You made the list of the proffesionals under 30 in the tennis industry. We really appreciate your effort of keep us posted. Congrats.

I got to compare APD orignal and 2012 Cortex version recently to compare side by side and I honestly don't know what Babolat is thinking - APD originals perform way better, the new ones are simply too stiff for serious game with too much pop getting in the way of consistency, depth control (and yes thats WITH the full western swings and 15g poly) and touch.

I don't see how any pro can play with the more recent, stiffer versions. Not surprisingly, Nadal uses a racket more in line with APD Original stiffness (65).

I see many others on this board share my opinion and would love to see a slightly softer APD offering from Babolat that would retain the more refined feel of the newer models - do you think it's possible?

Well, he definitely improved my view of the company. I think it's really cool that Babolat is letting this guy have a direct dialog with us tennis nuts.

...now about that APD question ;)

I will be comparing and play testing Babolats 3 players rackets this week.

Pure Storm Ltd GT with Xcel at 55lbs
Pure Control 95 with Xcel at 55lbs
Pure Strike Tour with Xcel at 55lbs

I will report back my findings.
I'm happy to receive any tests requests.......

    1. Direct comparison of Pure Storm Ltd (is it the GT version). with Pure Control 95, especially in flex/comfort and plow through/need for lead.

    2. A possible comparison of Pure Strike Tour with something like the Pure Storm Tour, especially maneuverability and spin generation.

    Looking forward to your comments.

I don't understand the question - are you asking why Babolat would let him play with their rackets for free instead of paying him?

Hi Daniel, could you elaborate on any plans/timelines as to when the "Babolat Play" system gets integrated onto other platforms besides the Pure Drive? The Babolat Control being the one I'm most keenly interested in? Thanks!

As he is not sponsored by Babolat that lessens the possibility that he is using a prostock, older AeroPro model paintjobed and not a recent retail release. While certainly possible, it is casts some doubt that Babolat would give him racquets reserved for sponsored players.

People who looked first hand at his APDs and posted about it disagree.

...On the other hand you are pretty sure...it's a toss up I guess. :)

    "People?" Who?

Maybe Daniel can help us with Verdasco?

I disagree with your statements about the new aeropro, it is a fantastic racquet and is used by many of the worlds best players.

The current offering is the result of extensive testing with pros, amateurs, juniors, etc. As with all of our products and future models, we continue to solicit feedback from all types of players. Thanks for your insights.

We do not sponsor or have a formal relationship with Verdasco.
