Boris Becker supports Kyrgios

Like it or not he says some obvious things about Nick. Life as sports is not all about being political correct.

Trash talking makes tennis better. Nick Kyrgios could be future No.1

Boris Becker believes tennis players should be free to vent their true feelings on court, even if that does occasionally mean the court microphones occasionally pick up a bit of unseemly trash-talking.

He also said that he believed Australian player Nick Kyrgios, who dropped out of this year's Wimbledon amid a storm of controversy, could be a future number one.

I defend the players today, they have great personalities, they are unbelievably good, but the system they’re stuck in they’re not allowed to show their true emotions in case they get fined.
"Of course if a guy makes a double fault he’s maybe going to break a racquet, he’s got another six or seven in the bag," he added. "But it causes a whole drama. McEnroe broke five racquets a day, and everybody loved it. "This is a real entertaining sport, ultimate challenge, man against man. Of course there are emotions. Just relax the rules a little bit and nobody gets fined after saying, ‘I didn’t like that.’"

"Probably the most interesting character that comes up is an Australian called Nick Kyrgios, who you may have heard about," he said. "He’s famed for the wrong reasons. He’s a really really good tennis player, and he has what it takes. He’s just a little bit confused about what’s important nowadays."I think what happened in Wimbledon, the US hard court season was a learning curve for him. If he gets his mentality together, if he gets the right guys around him, he’s a future number one."Tennis needs stars," Becker added. "Tennis needs people to carry it to different places. He looks different, he speaks different, he acts different. He needs to win a couple of tournaments, then we’ll like him."

People often moan about dull tennis. Tennis gave them Kyrgios on silver plate and they (2 biggest fanbases) smashed it on the ground like spoiled child that doesn't like candy it was given.

Don't know about #1, but the top 10 is possible in the future.

How about Kyrgios getting some decent results first, in stead of still getting beaten by 30+-veterans?
How about some support first for these youngsters. Not hype like with Nishi or Coric (Fed was right on that) and not bashing Kyrgios or ridiculing all young players on tour.
Kyrgios won against Nadal and he was better than Gasquet last year, but that same Gasquet beat him 3 times in 2015, ask yourself why. He is young and already in center of attention. Not only it's almost impossible even for older players like Nishi, Grigor or Raonic to hurt big 4, but he has to overcome public opinion as well.

I'd say have a look at the Pro Match Results-section of this forum, you'll find out that I rather intensily follow the youngsters, as I cannot wait for a couple of them - or even just ONE of them! - to finally start seriously knocking on the door of the "Tennis Establishment". ;)

Kyrgios made it difficult for himself with his completely out-of-order remarks about a colleague's personal life.
A very succesful and highly regarded colleague, no less. With - so far - no results to speak off, to back up having such a big mouth. I mean, actually winning tournaments, not just the incidental beating of a declining superstar.
In other words: show, don't tell.

Of course, I know he's young and all, and I sincerely hope he's learned his lesson from this obvious faux pas. I'm no "hater" of any player, and that includes Kyrgios. :)

Says the guy who complained (while losing) about Felix Mantilla's grunting (the only player ever, to my knowledge), or accused Muster of doping following his loss in the monte carlo final after holding 2 match points on his serve.

Boris is a prima dona.
There's a reason he doesn't want to go back to Germany; people have grown weary of his antics over there.

Making quarter finals of a Slam >>> winning 250 ATP title against nobodies...

Back in June he said "I actually don't like tennis" plus other things he says and does just rubs people the wrong way.
Bottom line is he just needs to grow up.

He plays a bit more non nonchalantly, Monfils type. He is more interested in his shots showing up in highlights reel.

That is true, he acted unprofessionally and he needs to be reprimanded as well as to realize what has he done, but overall I have that feeling people are going too far with his condemnation.

I support Nick too as long as he gets his house in order and quits acting like a spoiled brat. How's that? I am a sports fan so I get to judge athletes by their game and their actions. That's part of the fun. His remarks about his friend and the WTA player were simply childish and rude. His constant whining and on-court drama only are rivaled by Serena's theatrics. If he doesn't really like tennis and likes basketball better, then by all means, quit tennis and ask for an NBA tryout. I would like him a lot more if he committed to tennis personally and supported the game, quit talking about his and his friend's sex lives in public, and stopped about 90% of the on-court theatrics. Notice I only said stopped 90% of the drama because a little drama adds color. I am not going too far with "condemnation" in my view. If he gets it together, I'll likely support him.

For me trash talking does not make tennis better. I appreciate there athletic and shot making skills levels...not how good they can run there mouth.

Boris always Kyrgios like himself, gamewise and attitude inside game but even then Boris said he didn't go to extremes like Kyrgios.

Boris is one of the most popular sportsman in the whole world. He was never behaving like Nick.
