Boris Becker

    Does he make good racquets [Boris Becker] ? My doctor told me that my racquet is too heavy since i have a shoulder injury[Flexpoint Radical], it might play a role in the injury.
    So im just wondering, what would be a good racquet for someone with an injured shoulder? So i guess the racquet has to be light.
    My doctor recommended me Boris Becker's racquet, but i don't know if there good (You know...because no pro uses them, so i might not be able to play well with a bad racquet)
    If not Boris Becker's then what racquet? thanks

    Boris Becker racquets are made by Voelkl. They are famous for making arm-friendly racquets.

    I have tried a couple of their racquets (C10 PT and DNX 10 MP). But I think ProKennex 5G and 7G are superior in the arm-friendliness area.

    I heard that they are good by someone who already demoed it and was buying it at a local tennis store.. I'm going to demo them to see if I like..

    I've to add though that you got a resourceful doctor out there ;)

    If a Boris Becker racquet is too heavy for your shoulder, you shouldn't be playing tennis until you are healed.

    Oh thanks for the advices, i guess ill demo one of his racquets too.

    Ohh but Boris'es racquets don't look so good! When i see my shiny flexpoint next to the Boris Becker racquet, its going to take a while for me to finally take the healthy one . xd

    Thanks :p i'm lucky to have a resourceful doctor. He already helped someone, or some people through their injury so he should know a lot in this topic.

    I don't know what heavy means in this matter, chess. I can play well with my flex point even now, but may be it might get worse. This in an inner pain so it is very hard to explain :( . But yea ill try his racquet for a while and see if my shoulder hurts in the end of the lesson.


    b/w, why does this spelling check think "racquet" is not spelled right? o_O lol

    You should take advise on the board with some caution. I know many instructors/pros who go with a little racquet after getting shoulder/wrist injuries. It really helps. On the otherhand, heavy racquets tend to be more stable and may help with elbow problems.

    So, you really need to pick your poision.

    The fact that a pro is reputed to play with a certain racquet does not make it "good" or not. As you can see from looking in this blog, many of the pro's are not actually using what is advertised and painted. The Volkl/Becker and ProKennex racquets are some of the most arm-friendly, performance racquets.

    Past finding some arm-friendly models, your task should be figuring out what racquet specs best fit your game. One of the keys is swingweight ... my preference is find the highest swingweight that I can maintain full strokes with so that my arm does not tire towards the end of play. There are lots of options out there and you should demo a number of them. And, just because Volkl/Becker doesn't pay pros to carry their name doesn't mean that they are not great racquets.:)

    I don't know about little racquets, it might be too "new" for me. I think i just need a lighter one. I also don't think im going to wait more to let this stupid shoulder rest, its been almost 2 months already.

    I know tourtenor, but i also like racquets with style xd . And i meant pros on the tour, instead of coaches. Well i don't really care about the look of the racquet in this situation, its not like im going to use it for a life time you know. Ill start building shoulder muscle and slowly changing to a heavier racquet.

    I also think that my flexpoints swing weight is great, ive been playing with it for a very long time and observed VERY fast improvement. Well...i don't know if its the racquet or the amount of time i put into tennis. And you know, you cant really test every single racquet. The flexpoints weight is very comfortable for me, and as i remember, my arm NEVER gets tired of it.

    It might be the (racquet)+(change to open stance)+(too much serve)+(no shoulder workout...EVER.), cant blame the racquet for the injury you know. Well...im changing to closed stance once again so it might be better. I also haven't served for 2 months, that's just great.
    But i know i will test Becker/volkl.

    COME ON!! :D I see the reason for "racquet" now. Is that origination from England? Because armour isn't right, but armor is.

    I appreciate all of you're advices. :)

    What exactly is the problem with your shoulder?
    Is it skeletal or is it a problem with your tendons/ligaments?
    Rotator cuff issues?

    I am freaking confused about that. As much as i know its those things next to the rotator cuff, the muscle things.
    I think that my shoulder blade is in a wrong spot or something, and its crushing those. It also causes inflammation.
    Something like that.

    The doctor held my arm like this ">>" and pushed it in. I think i heard a crack, and it hurt. But 2 seconds later it was like my shoulder was fixed.
    After the crack he tried some things with my shoulder that he tried BEFORE the crack, and this time it didn't hurt.

    The reason why im not sure is because my parents are Russian, but im not that good at listening or speaking Russian. Thats why im not too sure about the problem.

    The doctor said it should get better, but if it keeps hurting then they have to take a "MRA" test or something like that on a Non-Skeletal part of the shoulder.

    As much as i know, its part of growing up.

    Note that not all frames in the Becker lineup have the same weight and flex. Some might be too heavy for you, and some may be too light.

    It is NOT THE RACQUET.. It's your shoulder!!!
    If it is the racquet, then its probably too stiff/light/you are using poly strings.
    Get the MRI scan and go from there.
    A definite possible cause is the muscles supporting your shoulder joint are too weak, and caused an imbalance.
    From your vague description of your symptoms/treatment it sounds like you had/have a dislocated shoulder.
    Some people suffer from this more than others, do you play basketball??
    Either that or its caused by bad technique or a combination of bad technique and weak shoulder muscles.
    I advise you start taking Bromeleine and continue resting the shoulder until it has healed. Bromeleine is an enzyme that's found in fresh pineapple and has been found to heal ligaments. You can also get it in tablet/capsule form.
    Get plenty of protein in your diet to assist in healing.
    Oh and maybe you might want to try acupuncture?

    Not sure why the spell check flags racquet as incorrect. In some areas of the world racquet is the preferred spelling whereas racket is preferred in other areas. Both spellings are often acceptable in many English-speaking areas. Note that racquet usually only refers to a sports implement, but racket can have multiple meanings -- racket can refer to (1) a loud noise, (2) an organized illegal activity, or (3) an implement used in various sports.

    I have also see other spellings used: raquette (primarily French), raket (Middle English, Turkey, Indonesia), raquete (Brazil), raqueta (Portugal & many Spanish-speaking areas).

    Be forewarned! As other people have mentioned, using rackets that are too light can be hazardous to your shoulder health. I have know quite a few ppl, including myself, who have developed shoulder and other arm problems from using very light rackets.

    Exactly what version of the Flexpoint Radical are you using -- MidPlus? OS? Team (or other variation)? Do you know the weight and swingweight of the racket you are using? While some of the older Head Radicals seemed a little bit on the heavy side, the FlexP versions that I have seen do not appear to all that heavy. In fact, quite a few of the Boris Becker and Vokl rackets are probably heavier than your present FlexP Rad.

    Did your doctor mention a specific model in the BB or Volkl line? Does he know a lot about tennis & tennis rackets? Perhaps it is the swingweight rather the (static) weight of the racket that is more important for your shoulder. Or, it could be that your doctor mentioned the BB rackets because they are reputed to be arm-friendly (even tho' some of them may be heavier).

    Have you checked out the MicroGel versions of the Head Radical or Prestige rackets? I think that there may 3 or 4 version of the MG Radical. I have heard that the Head MG rackets are more arm-friendly that previous Head rackets. Also, some of the more flexible Babolat rackets with Cortex might be suitable for your shoulder.

    I found the Speedport Black from Prince to be very easy on my shoulder. (The new Team version of this racket is lighter than the original SP Black but, at 10.3 oz, might be too light). Note that the aerodynamics of the SP rackets enable the heavier rackets to swing like a lighter racket. If you want less power the the SP Black, you might try the SP Tour. If you want a bit more power than the Black then try one or more or the SP White rackets.

    Oh thanks, but i think those that might be for people with worser conditions.

    The doctor told me that "it is not dislocated, it is ****located", i dono what that first part of that whole world is in English.
    But it seems somehow that the shoulder might hurt because it is fallen down out of place, as i usually used to hold it up to stop the pain (about 4 months ago when i used it a lot and it hurt more) It isnt dislocated though, unless the doctor made some kind of mistake :/ .

    I played tennis a couple of days ago, private lesson. My shoulder didn't hurt because i wasn't hitting it too hard, even though sometimes the weight transfer-energy caused me too hit it hard. And with the backhand, it didn't hurt at all, as hard as i hit. I think it is healing, so im still not going to do anything too stressing for my shoulder

    And 1 more thing to mention.
    I was serving that day, and i usually get lucky on my Last-Serve of the lesson. I serve and serve, and it hurts a bit because it is usually "2 motions" instead of one. What i mean is, the racquet moves up, And THEN hits(2 motions). But the last serve i did was 1 motion, like both of those fused together...good style....and the ball went in great! I didn't even feel A THING on my shoulder, so i'm going to continue trying to find out how i did that serve.

    Just for saying, my first serve is pretty consistent, fast, and good in style. That's why i didn't / don't know why it is "2 motion". It seems like most of the pros use that serve. Most likely, that serve is the right one, but i just need to build shoulder muscle to use it again. So for now im going with the "1 motion" serve

    Oh and i used to go to acupuncture, but i stopped. Now in the physical pheraphy area they put electric things on the shoulder for like 10 minutes or so, and in the end the shoulder gets really warm. I think acupuncture might be for upper level muscles because it didn't help.

    Im using flex point mid plus, and i just changed to less thicker strings. I think the doctor said "Boris Becker 11" to be more specific.
    If it doesnt get better, and if it somehow gets worser ill tell my dad. Right now hes like "you dont need a new racquet"

    Did the doctor really say that your FlexP Radical was too heavy for your arm? Or perhaps he just said that it was too hard on your arm? I ask because, the FP Radical isn't light, but it's not really all that heavy either. The 2 original versions of the Becker 11 are about 1 oz heavier than your Radical. The Pro version of the BB 11 is about the same weight as yours. Only the newest Light version weighs less than your racket -- perhaps only 10 to 15 grams (0.5 oz) less.

    Does your Dad not believe the doctor or is he just being stubborn about the whole shoulder issue?

    Oh i see, he said "heavy" though, i guess he ment "hard" as well. I dont know about my dad, i guess he just doesnt believe that it will help. He took his advice though and got me less thick strings.

    B/W the last day of practice before i took a break was like my best. that day and before i could serve well. The first few serves it hurt, but then it stopped on about the 4th serve. I think this is because i hit the ball hard, and the shoulder located to an area which will cause less pain, like adapting to the serve motion?

    Right now i never served hard, and i dont want to because it might mess up. But if i do serve hard, will it fix my serve pain( or even may be background stroke pains as well?)......and it only fixes it for a day, or until i take a long break from playing.
    Should i try serving hard? or will it mess up my shoulder more and make me have a longer "break from tennis" ?

    Im asking this because when my doctor cracked my shoulder toward my body ">" like that. Pushed the elbow part toward my body. When he did that, it stopped hurting for a while. Thanks

    Is the problem that the bones in your shoulder joint, shoulder blade (scapula) or collar bone (clavicle) become misaligned or partially displaced (subluxation) rather than being a full-blown dislocation?

    It could be a combination of your anatomy, your racket, and your stroke mechanics that is responsible for your shoulder pain. Sometimes, when you attempt to serve hard, you might be "muscling" it too much -- you could very well be tensing up too much. When the pain subsided (on the 4th serve), you may have been more relaxed or your body may have adjusted to produce a better (pain-free) service action.

    Before you leave the house to go to the tennis courts, perform various static stretches for your shoulder. Do not do these types of stretches as part of your court warm-up. Instead, perform various dynamic stretches -- arm swinging, arm circles, arm scissors, and jumping jacks (with normal arm movements to the side alternating with arm movements forward, to the front of your body).

    Before you start serving balls, start off with some easy service shadow swings. Gradually build up the intensity of these swings. When you start serving balls, again start off easy and gradually increase the intensity.

    Be sure to keep your grip, arm, and shoulder relaxed while serving -- especially when you start serving harder. Do not think about serving hard. Instead, stay relaxed, use a good knee bend and swing the racket a bit faster (instead of harder, if that makes any sense).

    When i used to play tennis more often my arm would be sore after playing, but after a couple of serves the soreness ended, ur right it could be a muscle.

    I also play calmly, so i don't think that's a problem. I realize that playing calm gives a lot of power.
    I served today, hard and slow. Slow serves hurt a bit, i also served fast, it hit a bit. But what confuses me is that sometimes i pull off perfect fast serves and it doesn't hurt at all, good positioning i guess.

    One doctor sais to build muscle on the shoulder area, and another sais to " Tape it" or something o_O

    Do you know if the spine is like "(" , then it effects the shoulder?

    Did you get any information on taping techniques for the shoulder? I am familiar with taping techniques for fingers, ankles and legs, but not for the shoulder.

    Nope, even the guy who says "just work out, don't tape" doesn't know anything about a shoulder taping technique.

    I just found a bunch of shoulder exercises, but it kind of hurts or stresses the shoulder when i do it. I was doing push-ups yesterday with the "power push-up " thing, and i did about 8 slowly, rested, then 16,16,8, rest, 4 rest(in about 5-10 minutes). It started kind of hurting after that, so i iced the shoulder after. Sometimes when i do push-ups my elbow hurts! Its like you put pressure on it when its bent, then when you straighten up the arm(including elbow part). it hurts. But that only happened 2-3 times.

    The doctor that opposes tape, tells me to stop playing tennis until it heals( I tell him that i barely play now, and i avoid hurting the shoulder when i hit), but he tells me to exercise too? That doesn't make sense since both stress the shoulder. I was going to ask him but he wasn't there today hmm, probably will reply "take a long break and then start exercising" or " do exercises that don't stress/hurt the shoulder at all.

    Well as i was saying, i found a bunch of exercises for the whole body, including the shoulder. Its easy to do at home, all you need are gauntlets*.
