I also suspect what Brad needs is more experience at the quarters of Futures to Challenger level to beat a guy like Nick Monroe.
I saw Nick play in a tournament last year and was impressed. I thought he was a very athletic, smart and versatile player who has been on the circuit a while with some decent success.
What string is he using? I see red and white, hybrid?
Red string im guessing PRC, BA ? , Revenge maybe?
Pro Red Code- mains
Babolat Xcel- Crosses
isn't stanford sponsored by tecnifibre?
I'm not really sure if any collegiate programs are sponsored by racquet/string company "X". From what I've gathered is that it is partnership-type program where the tennis programs get equipment at great discounts.
how do you know this ??
^ That's an interesting combo regardless.
is it Xcel power or Xcel premium ??
Whilst we're at it, what stick does he use? YT prestige___ i'm guessing from the video. Would also be interesting to see if it was customized or not..!
BTW, anyone knows which tournaments Brad is playing now (if any), whether he's going to play more challengers and futures this summer?
He's been named to the USTA Summer Collegiate Team so I'm sure he'll be playing more Futures/Challengers. I think the intent of the Summer Collegiate Team is to help high potential collegiate players transition to the pro ranks if that's what they really want to do... don't quote me on that.
Klahn has lost 1st round in the only 2 futures he's played this summer. Once to Nick Monroe, ranked in the 500s with a career high of around 280 if I'm not mistaken, and the other to Jarmere Jenkins, the #3 player from UVA.
People were saying in this thread how dominant Klahn was in college. Doesn't seem like it to me if he's losing to a guy who will probably play 4, and possibly 5, for UVA next year.
If I were the USTA, I'd be rethinking that WC into the Open although I still think he will get it.
Fedace said Klahn was playing at the level of someone 200 in the world and I said he was playing like someone who was 400. Looks like we both overestimated him, although one more drastically than another.
FYI, Robert Farah won 2 futures in South America during the same time period and has a match record of 16-1 post-college.
Klahn uses the youtek prestige mp
You're not following your beloved player very closely...
Klahn has a match at the Aptos Challenger early this week against Alex Bogomolov. I think we should measure his success against men, rather than women, since after all "Nadal, Federer and Roddick" are all men. Also, I didn't realize those 3 could be categorized with Nick Monroe and Jarmere Jenkins.
Of course, i was just kidding about Jankovic.....LOL. i agree, we will see how bradley does against Alex B. That should be real interesting. Maybe USTA is watching that one real closely as well....
Fed would beat him with his shaky backhand alone these days....
Its actually unbelieveable to compare the college kids to the best in the world, which are, like you said at a massive difference in level of performance.
Klahn vs Bogo in 2 hours
I guarantee you that she would beat him. The only thing keeping him in the match would be him holding his serve. He starts getting involved in any rallies and he's finished. The depth, pace, angles and accuracy of the shots that he'll be on the receiving end of, just wouldn't be anything that he's used to. He'd moving from one end of the court to the other, be constantly on the back foot and wouldn't be able to impose his game anywhere near enough of the time. I don't think you appreciate how massive the gulf is between World No.4 pro level tennis and someone like Khlan.
Yeah... she schools him pretty well during that hitting session
I think he's improved quite a bit however within the last 12 months.
This video has been discussed in the past. There are probably over 40 pages on it. You honestly think Brad was going all out? You can tell that he was holding back his serve and wasn't putting any shots away at all. They do this all the time. Why would Jelenas coaches want her to hit with someone that would blow her off the court and lower her confidence?
Look at the serve in the video you posted above and look at this one.
Bras at that time would have beaten her and now that he has improved a **** load in the last year he would honestly beat her 3n3. That's being very insanely generous.
You use a single serve as evidence? Beside that, where's the proof that was 135 MPH? Hell, I'm sure I've gotten lucky and popped a few over 100, myself
I've watched him serve in his other match play videos and a serve like that from Klahn is rare. He's usually looping it into the box.
BTW, his stats should be available after his match today... serve and all
Very loopy indeed. Facepalm!!
Klahn is on the the top 3 doubles team in the nation and was #1 in the nation for doubles for a good chunk of the spring season. I doubt he could be that good in doubles with a "loopy" serve.
His opponent has a better serve, IMO. Klahn misses a huge number of first serves at which point he loops in his second serve (exactly as I remembered). I'm interested to see Klahn's serve percentage after his match today against Bogomolov. Hopefully, he's improved it from when this video was taken.
#226 vs #707 in 10 minutes
What channel is this on? If not what website?
His second serve is not a loop though. It has a monster amount of kick on it.
Just a crappy center court camera with a slow refresh rate...
No live scores either...
Wow that camera sucks. I'm guessing their playing on that court?
Is that you moving the camera all around?
oh wowow hahahahah I wasn't sure if that anyone else could see that.. ahhaa
Um... ya... saw you move it, pan, tilt then point it at the ground behind the bleachers
Whoa, WTF every time I go back to that screen it's different. I'm not moving it anymore.. I don't think anyways.
I think someone else is fiddling with it now. They should disable all those features and simply center it on the court.
Oh nvm just refresh the page.
When they coming on?
where is the video ??
Can't find the results anywhere... lousy support for that tournament.
Did Klahn win? Cannot find clear results anywhere. On tennis.com, there's a match up between Klahn and our very own Bogo (Bogdanovic) so I assume Klahn beat Bogomolov. Is that right?
Match hasn't started yet.
Klahn got owned 0n2
6-2, 6-0 Bogomolov d. Klahn
Hey Bud, are you a tennis coach as well? Thanks. Tina
Nope... just enjoy giving solicited advice
(I find it helps my own game as well)
I see. Are you a tennis player or just play tennis? I am still learning about this sport. Thanks. Tina
I play an average of 8-12 hours per week
I see. That's great. I should do that as well after moving to a new location. Thanks for sharing though. Have a great night!
Just goes to show how ridiculous some of 'pro-Klahn' comments are in this thread....
Just a huge difference between a real pro player and a great college player. Klahn seems to have potential though... as he starting playing much later than many guys on tour (started playing at 11 or 12, IIRC)
I'm actually very excited to see how his first round match goes. Hopefully it's not like Devin Brittons draw and pulls Federer.
actually Devin made Roger look silly in some of the points with his power. Devin hit a Clean winner forehand return off of roger's 1st serve. Roger never saw what hit him......and few games later Roger tried to do the same to Devin's serve but missed wide. and Devin gave roger this evil Smile.....lol:twisted:
There's something very peculiar with this thread - somebody is deleting perfectly legitimate posts and skewing the information in this thread.
For example, the one with Fedace saying Bogomolov is an "up and coming player that's going to break into the top 20" and my response saying he's 27 years old and won't, has been deleted along with others.
Clearly whoever is deleting the posts doesn't understand right of freedom of speech, a right enshrined in the US constitution, and is intent on skewing information and people's pereceptions.
It's called a mod and I highly doubt they give a flying *bleep* about your rights.
