I really do not like to see a crowd cheer the opponent's ERRORS the way theyre doing to Alund right now ... especially cuz they are really LOUD with their pro-error cheering!

hate it hate it hate it ... alund keeping together enough to hold, down a break, 1-3

It's not just about soccer. But also a racial/ethnic issue.

He's already lost more sets on clay than in all of 2012.

how will nadal adjust his game to cope with his injuries? will he become more of an all-court player?

Hewitt made some adjustments to his game due to injuries, i wonder what Nadal will do.

oh. thanks. guess I'll have to google it.

I tried to google translate what the umpire is saying, sounds like, "obligado."

that's Portuguese, right? And Brazil was a Portuguese colony?

they always do that at the brazil open ..... a few years ago, when they were in the old outdoor stadium, sometimes during the early days during the week, monday/tuesday, the car was the only thing in the stands watching the match!!! Guess they've got the expeience how to keep that darn car secure! :)

and whatever appearance fee they paid nadal this year, it's put more butts in the seats than i've ever seen there before ... today it was truly standing room only at times!

The same guy that placed the court line tape down is responsible for securing the car, so no worries.

I've only been here a couple months or so, but here's what I figured out.

#1. If you are a constant winner, most TTers will hate you and wish death upon your children. They will also make you the #1 talked about topic.

#2. If you are a consistent loser, they root for you till you win like crazy, then they break down every bit of your game till you are no better than Michael Russell.

Another horrible match from Nadal. He lost a set to a guy who had never even played an ATP tournament before. Wtf is Nadal doing out there?

To see how garbage he is playing and how bad his ros is, through 2 sets against a guy ranked outside the top 100, he only won 3 of 33 points on return. Please retire for your sake and your fans sake, Nadal. This is too embarrassing to be believed.

Yes, Brazil has a lot of Portuguese influence.

As for the cheering, it's both a football(soccer) thing(massive massive rivalry between Brazil and Argentina) and since they also neighbour Argentina, there is bound to be some dislike. As an European I can safely say that some of the biggest rivalries(of any kind) are between neighbouring countries and I doubt the system works different in South America.

Another theory and just as valid is that they were trying to intimidate Rafa's rival(s) to see the much awaited Nadalbandian final.

Three sets to get past a guy with a losing record in challengers? I'll take my chances with Nalby.

Famous last words. Many tennis players have beaten a monster champ one day, then get shelled the next. Rafa playing himself back into shape.

    Rafa wins.

What have you seen since his comeback that makes you think this? All I have seen from him is unbelievable passivity, and pure unadulterated mug tennis. He is doing nothing well at all.

The only way Rafa wins tomorrow is if Nalby starts kicking line judges. :)

Seriously, Rafa's level is in the pits

If Djoko was 2.0 since 2011, present Rafa seems like the 0.2 version.

That was a pretty good third set from Rafa.

He can regain that. As long as he doesn't get injured again.

He came to South America to play on clay and to not get beaten 6-0.

So what?. Was he coming back from a 7 month injury layoff in 2012?.

He's playing with an enourmous lack of confidence.

At least he stepped it up for the third set.

If you see Nadal lose MC or Barcelona then you should be worried. Until then, people need to relax, seriously. I can't believe I am defending Nadal.:razz:

Nadal looks bad now but he will improve. Federer looks worse to me and he has not been off for 7 months.

thx that seems *most* likely of the explanations offered ..... but .... the whole bad neighbor thing .... well, i'll have to research about that ..... Portugal the neighbor of Spain ... the language of Brazil is Portuguese ... Argentina more influenced by Falklands/England but is Spanish speaking and more influenced by Spain, according to http://www.argentour.com/en/argentina_history/colonial_period_argentina.php

gawwww ... probly most likely that finals ticket holders did NOT want to see an all argentine final

still, it did seem that Nalbandian was a bit of a crowd favorite . . . confusing :???:

Why should he lack confidence against anyone he has played so far since he came back? Nadal is the most frustrating player to be a fan because he is such a mental midget he has to be brimming with confidence to beat clowns outside the top 100. If that doesn't tell you something is seriously wrong inside this guy's head I don't know what will. Nalby is going to double bagel this fool tomorrow in an absolute beatdown. Just wait and see for yourself.

Because he hasn't played in SEVEN months and is lacking confidence on his shots, regardless of the player in front of him?.

Plus it's not like he's the most confident player (probably thanks to Toni).

Nalbandián is probably favourite for tomorrow. I heard he's playing well anyway. Haven't had the chance to watch him

Just give the guy some time! If he is not able to do anything by MC or some of those other clay events before FO and he loses the FO, then we may have a bad situation but right now he looks like he is just trying to find his way again. I thought he would have adjusted quicker but I still think he will be ok the more matches he plays.

Then please don't be a fan of Rafa, please. You can always go to the Fed camp. I heard they'll accept you with open arms. And you'll jell with them pretty nicely.....

    thanks, Fiji! :)

"obrigado" and "por favor" were the most common ... I shoulda figured taht one out, but it was escaping me (especially when I spelled it wrong for the google translate.

    Obrigado! :D

Q: Is Portuguese a mixture of French and Spanish? Cuz some of the words and pronunciation also sound French to me . . .

Is there anything more difficult than returning from an 8+ month layoff? Nadal however, has made the final in his first 2 events!

that's sooooo the main important thing!

strangely to say, it almost seems to me the viewer as if nalbandian is actually in better shape physically (meaning less aches, pains, injuries [not the teletubby profile]) than nadal

nalbandian will give nadal a different workout than he's seen in either Chile or Brazil, IMO ..... nadal's probably dreading it, after the way nalbandian dismissed bolelli in straights today ..... s/b an excellent final!
