actually, it has happened to me in a tournament many years ago. I was in the singles final. I had 2 matching racquets, an older racquet, and an an old wood racket that I used to practice with when I wanted to force myself to concentrate on technique.

I broke all 3 strings and was finally force to play the entire 3rd set with the wood racket. I lost the 3rd set 6-2....

None of my friends, etc., had brought any racket b/c they were out of the tourney already, btw.

She actually looked like a junior girl in a group photo of her team compared to the grandma looking teammates. She is a health freak and maintains her body really well. That is why she has moved from 2.5 to 4.0 in the period she has been posting here.

Seriously? You are fitter and fiercer-looking than most of my team members - most of us are north of 50. If I posted our team photo, you would have a good laugh. No longer want to play you... LOL may even become a fan.

Interesting how perceptions change based on appearance.

Yes, we know. 12, I recall you saying once.

But that does not change the fact that you enforced the rule strictly when it favored your team (hiding behind stand-in captain tag) and thought game penalty for racket replacement time loss was a bit severe.

Just read the article. Then CTRL-F ed it. I cannot believe she did not mention in the article that she captains USTA teams.

    PS: Nice write-up Cindy.

    I switched...it is a VERY nice stick.

We've come close in the past, but no cigar so far. And now it will only happen when/if I play up. But maybe Saturday????

Go find another 5.0 male and when Cindy and I play 9.0 mixed we shall play each other!

I don't know where a game penalty would apply. According to the point penalty system, the first time infraction only earns a warning.

I usually am lenient about tardiness penalties. Remember, two courts should have been outright defaults, but I did not take the defaults. I also rounded down the game penalties.

If the opponents in the more recent case had wished to impose penalties for a broken string and the rules would allow it, so be it. Me, I would probably be lenient.

Good to know that you also have different degree of leniency towards different rules, just like the most of us. So next time you strictly adhere to one saying rules must be followed (e.g. catching the ball 10 feet behind baseline to prevent it from going into a swamp in a social match), we can come back to this :)

    Uh, OK.

Yes, I like to use my judgment and common sense at every opportunity. If that results in "different degrees of leniency," so be it.
