I am currently on spring break but sadly where I live I still got snow on my break. I was at the gym playing alot of basketball and after stopped playing for a day the pain kicked in and I even noticed brusing on my shins. Shin splints are a recurring problem for me but I have never noticed any brusing. Is this common?

Bruising isn't really normal... maybe you got kicked and didn't realize it? I used to deal with shin splints alot from my marathon running. What you need to do is stretch for about a good 15 minutes. I mean a thorough stretch, holding each stretch for at least a count of 20. For shins specifically I do a weird stretch, hard to explain with just words but i'll try:

    1) stand straight up
    2) Keep your feet together toes pointed forward.
    3) take you right foot and place your right heel next to your left toe.
    4) pivoting around your right heel, rotate you right toe so it touches your left heel.
    5) Twist and hold this stretch.
    6) repeat again but time switching feet.

    hope this helps.
