    Understood! :D

I really only put this thead up because they're showing selected matches @ http://www.tennistv.com/live

this week i'm actually more interested in seeing how sloane is doing than caroline (tho i keep hoping Caro will go one, single, solitary tournament without having her dad leach come out on court ... good grief she has to learn sometime!)

screen cap from a few minutes ago ... i

EDIT: tweet a few minutes ago said "Justine Henin is in the house" ... wouldnt be surprised if they sshow justine during matches where she's in attendance ... it w/b fun to see how she's looking these days!

This is a good draw for Stephens. There is some competition but they have all been inconsistent this year, and none of them are lethal. She definitely has a shot.

If she wins, it will be her first title, and will give her something to back up the hype. I'm still annoyed with her and part of me wants her to have a crap year and get knocked down to number 46 or something. But I know I can't hold this grudge forever, and that if she checks her ego and starts winning tournaments I will end up being a fan. So, I don't exactly wish her well, but I'm not rooting against her. Not that how I feel matters at all! :)

Vinci is a less than impressive second seed as well....

Overall this tournament is a giant snoozefest.

lol ... not only that, but sloane stephens is the 4th seed!

i was honestly trying to watch the match between pironkova and stephens, but gradually my chin went down to my chest and zzzzz's started coming out of my mouth!

pironkova had some kind of an injury time out that took ages while sloane and her mom and everybody there looked miserably cold, waiting for her return. there was virtually no energy there, except for a few bursts of it. I don't understand. why get out there if youre not gonna play all out?

Well week before the french open and all the top players just played Rome and Madrid so of course the seeds are gonna look paltry.

As for who wins..who knows. Woz should be able to but lets be honest she probably won't.

I'd go with Cibulkova if I had to pick a seed...otherwise an unseeded surprise to win

Do you know what happened? From what I can tell, they are going to finish playing tomorrow part way into the third set. Did it get too dark?

Also, I can't believe Sloane just sat there getting cold during the mto. You'd think she would have learned from her AO match with Vika. Almost deserves a mention in the what's wrong with her thread.

yes, that's exactly what happened ... the match was called b/c of darkness ... score was 2 all in the third ... match w/b finished second on the center court menu when play resumes.

tbh, i'm not even sure how long the mto had been going on by the time I tuned in ..... here's a couple screen caps of sloane and her mom ...

I like your thinking, except I don't understand what reason you're annoyed with Sloane? Since we've got nothing else to do, could you please explain a bit? :?:

Anyway, after watching her against Pironkova yesterday, I'm annoyed for what may be a different reason ... for sure it was a rotten day, conditions and all, but she just didnt seem to show positive emotion, passion, etc., which you can't consistently win without ......

today it's rain delay for a couple hours already! :(
still, it's a pretty venue with lots of courts available ...

Why would anyone expect passion from her? Over the past several weeks, this adult has spent more time on social media destroying herself than on her shaky game.

Unlike the Oudin USO run (where she beat one bigger player after another), Stephens' only "moment" (if it can be called that) came by playing an injured woman, but she was demolished in the following round, illustrating that the hype was utterly false.

Now that her Twitter disaster has become her new identity, we see her not exactly being the next big thing in the game--expressed by her body language and general demeanor.

To think--someone in another thread tried to predict she was some "new guard" on the tennis scene.

    MMMkay.

b/c everything is Public Relations these days, i've ignored twitter, don't know why american tv and radio shows, etc., refer to it so often ... but ... i can't imagine sloane being anything but honest and polite ..... is there some kind of attempted PR destruction going on?

    =====

meanwhile, there was an announcement in a language i don't understand, so i looked at the court: tarps still on, still the soft sound of some wind and rain ..... if they don't start soon, this day's schedule (like yesterday's) is also gonna be cut short by darkness ...

    http://www.tennistv.com/live/event/833517/article/3185717

EDIT: it's 3:15 p.m. local, and there are a few people out and about ..... IIRC, it was around 6 p.m. when it was called for darkness yesterday ..... the way it looks now, i wouldnt be surprised if the whole day gets called off . . .

Sadly, I have to work today. Otherwise I would compose a novella for you :) it's because of her crap with serena. There are 2 threads dedicated to it in the general pro player discussion section. Part one you have to go back 10 or 11 pages. Then just when you thought it died down, she revived it and a second thread was started, which is more recent , like page 1 or 2. To me there were quite a few more nuanced annoyances from her that most people overlooked because they want to like her (as do I) and she said them with a pretty smile. Her subsequent interviews confirmed for me what I already suspected about her personality.

She's young and will hopefully outgrow it. I want to support her, but she's got to check her ego and grow up. She's 20 not 14. Or at least start producing great tennis.

I'm not sure what you mean about "crap with serena," so rather than try to find it in some other threads in the other forum, i'll see what i can find in the search engines ... i remember thinking serena was playing games on court at the AO, but if it has something to do with "ego," then it's hard to imagine anyone with more ego than The Mean Girls, the Big Three .... still, i'll take a look around ... there's nobody i can think of (except Micaela Bryan ) who uses twitter more than those big three. Twitter, IMO, is nothing but advertising and spin ... and of course stirring the bowl. IOW i'm not fond even of the idea of it. Can you imagine? The EGO it takes to believe that people around the world care what somebody is doing and thinking every minute of the day?!?!?

    now that's ego! woof!

EDIT: turns out you were right about those other threads. they were pretty easy to find ... but both of them were closed by the mods due to complaints ... lol ... guess it's a "hot topic" ... so I went looking in the "startpage" browser and found @ http://espn.go.com/espnw/9227331/sl...ng-more-beating-serena-williams-espn-magazine ..... read the article. there is actually some information in there. that clip with those two bozos stroking each other at the top of the page is nothing but bowl stirring .... amazing that crap like that gets on tv.

As Mark Twain wrote: Never start a fight with someone who buys ink by the gallon.

that means so-called journalists, including sports writers, whose main job is promoting themselves and of course currying favor (aka boot-licking) with the multimillionaires jocks. this whole thing is months old and a tempest in a teapot, imo. poor sloane. she can't afford the kind of public relations juggernaut that's already working for S. I fear her sensitivity will keep her distracted for a while .... sloane needs a giant PR firm advising her, too!

    Sure you didn't.

That's why you have a Sloane avatar and were posting heavily in every thread about her especially the ones about the "crap with Serena."

sorry. youre 100% wrong in your suspicious accusation. time of original post 6:39 p.m. ... time of original edit 9:10 p.m.

i happen to like sloane stephens a lot and wish her well. that's why I have her avator. nothing nefarious about it. She and her mother are both beautiful.

Nothing I can do if you don't believe me!

why does piotr point to one side of the court or the other when he's giving caroline his pearls of wisdom? :???:

anyway ... despite his advice, caroline lost the first set 2-6 to jie zheng!

    =====

    edit:
omg caroline hasn't won a game since the last time daddy came out to the court ... and now he's out there again ... WHEN is he gonna stop his slop?

zheng is up a set and a double break 3-0 in the second ... she's lookin dialed in, caro's lookin asleep!

unseeded Jie Zheng (CHN) brings home the bacon in round two by d the top seed Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) 62 64 ..... during the post match interview, a man from the crowd shouted out that he loved her, to which she responded, "I'm married," while her proud husband watched on ... Zheng's next opponent w/b Romina Oprandi of Switzerland, who advanced to the quarters today by defeating Julia Goerges (GER) by retirement after winning their first set 63.

Zheng had already played a 3 setter against Burdette earlier on, so this was her second match of the day. Actually, Wozniacki deserved two bagels, six games was six too many. In every forehand exchange Zheng proved her superiority. Once the winning ways are gone and people are back to their basics, we see what they really have and this is all Wozniacki has got. It is almost unbelievable that somebody like Wozniacki is somehow a top tenner, completely unthinkable she was once number one with this lack of skill set. Now there are three real heavy weights leading the WTA.

Perhaps it also puts Kvitova and her 2011 into perspective too.

because of the rainout on tuesday, every unseeded player who made it past the first round and didnt play on monday had to play two matches on wednesday.

all the seeded players were given byes into the second round. the seeds who lost in the second round, preventing them from playing any second match in the tournament were c.wozniacki, d.cibulkova, and j.goerges. so, there are now five seeds remaining, namely, r.vinci, s.stephens, k.flipkens, v.lepchenko, and p.shuai

K so ... what a mess ... Kirsten FLIPKENS vs Jamie HAMPTON was supposed to start at 10:30 a.m. .... but b/c of the rain, that match is still being played, and it's almost 6 p.m.

Personally, I'm curious what's gonna happen in the one-set match to follow that, namely, Yulia PUTINTSEVA vs Roberta VINCI, which it seems has been going on forever, with second seed vinci taking the first set 63, and qualaifier putintseva winning the second set 75

    ==========
edit: woohoo ... the American wins 7-5 in the third

when the announcer says, "JUST one meter sixty-three" that makes it sound as tho she's a shortie ... since he didnt bother to translate I'm sorry to hear it if she is short, cuz she does seem to be a confident player with more than a little bit of game for an 18-year-old.

one-set decider on now: Yulia Putintseva (KAZ) vs. [2] Roberta Vinci (ITA)
UNFORTUNATELY, it has begun to rain, one game all ...

edit: Yulia breaks to lead 2-1 ...

edit: but yulia doesnt consolidate ... vinci breaks back ... on serve 2 all ...

second seed roberta vinci (oldest player this week) starting to look like good choice for champion of this tournament, takes third set decider from yulia putintseva (youngest player this week), advancing to the QF, where she will face (and I predict defeat) jamie hampton.

Jeez what's up with the crappy weather for this tournament? Is this common in this area?

Anyway, I feel bad for the women who have to play a qf then a semi tomorrow. At least they will be on equal footing in semi, but it definitely gives an edge to peng or oprandi for final.

oh ... iow that phrase "safe as houses" refers to a house being a safe investment rather than a safe place to take shelter? oh i just checked the link, and it seems to say that both meanings are used.

btw ... do you ever have tornadoes or hurricaines where you live?

Yes, tornadoes but we have basements and nuclear bomb shelters. Unlike Tornado Alley, you got to chill, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_Zgyp4HgNU

    Thursday Results

    Second Round
    Jamie Hampton (USA) d [5] Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) 64 36 75
    [2] Roberta Vinci (ITA) d Yulia Putintseva (KAZ) 63 57 62

    Quarterfinals
    [8] Shuai Peng (CHN) d [4] Sloane Stephens (USA) 62 63
Romina Oprandi (SUI) d Jie Zheng (CHN) 63 36 60

edit: I didnt see Peng/Stephens, but I'm not surprised at the score, cuz Peng has been very confident for the past couple weeks in doubles, and in a small tournament like brussels, that confidence is gonna carry over. Stephens needs to get some confidence from somewhere, and i'm guessing the sports writers nagging at her about issues that are 3-4 months old isnt helping at all. otoh, maybe she was hoping for some warmer weather in Paris ... just hope it's not raining there, too ...

is this a disaster for the organizers or what?

First match of the day was scheduled for 11:00 a.m., but after all the rain, Lepchenko/Kanepi is currently on serve in the third set, kanepi serving 4-5 ... and the time now is gone 6:00 p.m. ... not time enough for even one more match before darkness ... so the rest w/b playing two matches each tomorrow ... IOW just a few seats sold today ...
