That guy must be proud; he volleyed back two of the fastest forehands ever seen! Seriously, that was a waste of time.

Lol and then Fed comes in and hits a tremendous winner. Nadal's unmatched shot IMO is the one against Djokovic at the US Open he just hits this lightning, low clearance, flat, crosscourt backhand winner that hits the back fence as fast as an ace

What a tree. It's so fun to see Rafa flatten out his backhand.

That is a very impressive backhand. I often think Nadal's backhand is weak (seems to lack pace and lands short)...but this makes me reevaluate that thought :)

those 2 forehands aren't that fast...especially when you compare it to his backhand against djokovic or federers forehand right on the line after those 2 what seems to me, normal rafa forehands...the guy volleying had time to do 2 splitsteps, whereas compared to federers forehand, nadal and moya were still in the air. I think you got the impression that they were the fastest you've seen because of nadals absurdly loud screech here.

this is way faster, but for some reason it looks slow..weird.

Better indication: same forehand compared to his first serve.

Yeah it is, but in pure MPH, like you said, fastest, they are not. They did have alot of spin on them. But even then, its not better than this shot.

I guess what i'm saying is that those 2 shots weren't exactly anything special from nadal, Hes hit way more incredible shots and I don't see these 2 forehands earning merit for a whole thread on them, especially considering the fact that if they were anything special, he would have won the point and not have federer slam a forehand into the back wall before they can turn their heads.

That video you posted, i must say that shot Nadal hit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9Wf-nIv9zw is his career shot. That topsin and the kick out is unbelievable at worst. Nadal is going to be the one who will be known as the inventor of modern topspin. That shot Nadal hit there is one of the best ive ever seen, period. Nadals speed and spin are marvelous.

The spin is unbelievable on that one, but it did hit the line, which is what accelerated the ball, and kind of exaggerated the shot. His backhand is probably the flatter and more penetrating shot on hard court, and easily his most improved shot. On clay its unbelievable the angles he creates on the run off that backhand, but on hard court where he has less time to prep, its even more impressive. This one against melzer isn't as fast as some, but was still impressive off the back foot, similar to the way federer hits his backhand passes, just angle to guide it past the opponent:
