I'd definitely take Federer's forehand and Sampras's serve. I think Edberg's volley skills in general were godly.

berdych is an amazing mover for someone his size. for a guy 6'5, he can get to balls that no one could ever imagine someone that big can reach.

I'd say a non-injured Safin or Ancic are guys that move better than he does. During his FO match, McEnroe even brought up the fact that even though he gets to most balls, he needs to make his footwork more efficient for someone his size.

I should also add, that was the Federer match. Where Berdych just kind of stood there as balls flew by him.

i personallly missed that match on tv so i cant comment on that one persay, but id suggest to watch some of his highlights on his site from pacific life or indian wells. in his match vs. henman, tim couldn't get a single ball by him. when he's on, berdych is lightning fast, much more so than ancic or safin. my guess is that just against federer, theres only so much that you can do, but otherwise, berdych, in my opinion, in the fastest "big guy" out there by far.

I would just combine Sampras and Nadal.

Just a lefty version of Sampras with fitness of Nadal.

That would be not bad....not bad at all...

(I set myself a goal in the above to only choose each player once, and have taken Becker's overhead even though I don't remember it well, I'm sure it was good though. I really wanted Pete's, but his second serve was required elsewhere :) )

fitness: agassi in his prime (dude sampras had anemia, no way he was the fittest)
    multi surface versatility: laver/roger/borg
    overall attitude: sampras
never say die attitude: nadal but i wouldn't use that, i think it may be unnecessary in a guy with the talent i'm describing. it may just erve early burn out for no reason.
if i were to combine 2 guys, it'd be sampras and agassi, they complemented each others' games perfectly.

    mmm... I don't know man...
Roddicks serve is fast and all but there are many players who are more bothered about other servers variety than Roddick's speed.
Gasquet's backhand , beautiful, but I believe he's still not quite up there with lendl.
and Gilbert... this is my biggest disagreement with you.. Gilbert self placed himself as this super intelligent player because of his books and comments. reality is that much of his thoughts are common knowledge but the majority of the people out there think of him as this tennis savy , which he really isn't. it's kinda like when you're a kid and you think that your dad knows everything, but when you grow older you start to realize he didn't always give you the right advice. and you develop your own judgement.

I really like Roddick's serve when he's on. He can blast high 130s-140s and his oponnents can't really return it. Also he's second serve is crazy, especially that kick serve. It bounces really high and oponnents have real trouble returning it, his second serve can also go up to 100-110s. I have to agree with you on the variety on his serve. Roddick can hit all kind of serves very well, but he can't use it effectively and mix it up. That's the reason why his oponnents aren't really scared of his serve anymore. Still I consider his serve one of the best when he's serving well. Gasquet's backhand is beautiful, but also one of the best on tour, John McEnroe said the best ever. He can rip winners of the backhand side anytime, down the line or crosscourt. If you look at Gasquet he's a pretty skinny guy, but hie backhand is powerful.

I like Roddick's serve too, purely attribute wise. If you gave Roddick's god given talent to unleash serves to Pete Sampras (who IMO had the best ability to use speed, accuracy, and variety - and also had great god given talent), Sampras would have had even a more deadlier serve. Purely from a natural ability standpoint, Roddick IMO is the best server in the history of the game. Unfortunately, I don't think he uses his serve to the best of that ability.

I can see what you're saying, about Roddick's second serve, he can also fake the kick out wide from the add court and hit it down the T instead, have you seen that one?

No, I haven't. I've seen him kick it out wide from ad court a lot. He should use that kicker as first serve sometimes and mix it up since it's so effective.
