:), true, it would've started as good discussion and then 28 of 30 pages would be random rants, and blow hard comments by know it all's. My bad.

Watched the last set and a half. Impressed by CA's composure when things weren't going his way until MM cracked at 4-4 in the second. Props to CA keeping his cool until he had a chance. Impressed by both players. Good luck and hope he gets some more airtime today or this weekend.

    Ya that was me.

I told him "racket back, bend your knees, that will be $60 please". He needed coaching cuz he was getting spanked the first 1.75 sets.

Worked like a charm! Amazing coaching! Best coach ever!

J/K. I am home in Cal and his mom said neither of them had any idea what the warning was for.

Looks like today is 3rd match on court 11 vs #1 seed Zverev. Not seeing a stream anywhere? Anyone else find one?

CA loses 6-4 6-4 to Zverev in QF of US Open junior. I thought he had a good shot at going to the SF. I believe there are no more US players in the Open. It's a great effort by CA, but it's a little discouraging that the best 18yo (Gage B. and MM) lost so quickly in the tournament.

To me it was an ENCOURAGiNG US Open because a new
top US player was forged in the heat of competition - CA!

Just before the US Open, CA destroyed Gage Brymer at
the Kalamazoo tournament 0 & 1. He then beat MM
    at the US Open.

He had a close match with the #1 seed at the US Open
Jr quarters and also had a 3-6 set in the mens main draw
against a guy who made it deep into the draw.

These are not fluke single match wins. This is the
emergance and growth of a player from years of
hard work. Love hearing about these kind of
stories. Remember - he was unseeded at the Zoo.

We watched CA at Kalamazoo and were incredibly impressed. Has he had success before this year? It feels like he suddenly appeared this summer. . . .

Completely agree! I think CA is a great young player, and in another league compared to other young US players. I was really more disappointed with the performance of the top new college recruits (Gage Brymer and MacDonald). They do not seem to compare to top europeans players of the same age. CA however is up there and only 17!

Thanks for the kind words onehandbh. I also found the experience incredibly encouraging. It was a respectable performance against a top 20 guy, and a noteworthy performance in the jr's. Too bad he wasn't able to stay healthy all the way through the tourney but that's how it goes sometimes. A great foundation on which to build and only the beginning for the young Jedi.

@strike1: He wasn't totally off the radar. He had won a gold ball in dubs at Springs, as well as winning the back draw and was consistently winning through futures quals beating atp ranked guys along the way. But ya, the last month has been quite a bump.

has CA ever played in the easter bowl? just wondering if he has how did he do there? and why is he so under the radar.... did anyone else hate the fact that the commentators during the MM and CA match said they were from Berkeley and Sacramento instead of Piedmont and Yuba City??

I think that is where they train, close enough for the tennis channel. Glad he is "off" radar seems the ones we hear about that are "on" the radar get side tracked or derailed.

I wonder how much the USTA has sunk their claws in CA? Is he a full-timer USTA HP player? If so, how long has he been under their wing?

He plays out of here http://www.jmgtennis.com/ I think. Granite would know better, but I think he is not part of USTA PD.

No PD or any support whatsoever. The core team will not be fragmented however we will welcome support and will be sharing philosophies to hopefully improve results over the long term. And JMG is non-typical and amazing.

They will be watching him though...with envy.

CA reminded me a bit of Rafter...the athleticism, movement, tenacity..
think he can develop into a great all court talent in the next 5years. Pat also came through under the radar.

(I don't like to normally compare players & mean no disrespect by doing this
as it is meant as a compliment).

JMG has done some great work, there is a "signature" there.

Question maybe someone can help me out with?

It looks like all 1st round US Open losers get 10 atp points, except WC's? Is that correct?

Looks that way, Duckworth received zero points, $32,000. Those who made it through qualies 25 points.
