Captain a 4.0 team here in Dallas, headed for the playoffs. Three of my best players, including myself are hurting with calf muscle problems. Any advice from the experienced out there?

R.I.C.E. (Ice 5-8 times per day, if possible)
    Tape.
    Light stretching but BE CAREFUL.
    NSAIDS with caution.

Proper shoes, which often means NEW shoes.

Lose the pig, if you are fat. Excess weight makes it worse.

Just my humble opinion. I'm sure I'm wrong, as usual.

    :)

    Good luck to you guys!

Well said on the weight. One of the issues is that we play INSIDE most of the time and then going outside is a unique experience. That and the heat in Texas.

Be careful with the stretching while you are still sore. It feels like you should stretch, but I think it's pretty easy to overdo it and make it worse.

I tore a calf muscle in high school (over 20 years ago), and it's always been a little susceptible to pulls since then. But I used to stretch it when I'd feel it get tight, and apparently I was stretching it too much and making it far worse.

Now when I feel a twinge, I give it just a little stretch, ice the first day, sometimes wrap it ... I haven't had a serious one in a long time.
