Why is the main camera's view so far back?

Can they not just zoom in a little bit so one can actually see the ball on the TV !!!

    Definitely different from other tournaments.

I've noticed this as well. It's hard to see the ball even in HD because the angle is so far back.

I agree, I had to move my couch closer to the TV :)

The camera is where it is owing to the architecture of the facility and a secondary need to not block sight lines. Zooming in from that distance will cause loss of part of the field and the need for jerky, abrupt side-to-side camera motions. It just doesn't work. You also lose depth of field, so part of the court will be out of focus.

I miss the camera angles from the court surface during rallies.

Maybe ESPN is trying to recreate the experience of actually being at Ashe - all you see (unless you have the rich seats) is a speck in the distance.
