Campus Club Tennis to Main Roster

Just curios, has any Campus Club Tennis player ever make it to the line up of the regular team on any colleges/universities? I wonder if team coaches/scouts ever take a second look at players from the club teams? Reason why I ask is, there is a local girl who recently graduated from HS, who is rated within the top 150 in the country, who had hopes of getting recruited at a mid to top D-1 school but did not get picked up. I hear that she will opt to play club tennis instead and concentrate on academics.

I guess it depends on the schools coach. I do know of one kid who made it to a top 10 D1 team. Whether or not he was in the starting 6 is a different story. Been to club nats 3 times. Many players use to be on the school team but left it due to their own reasons. Guys level of play is much higher than the girls. I would guess you pick the top 6 and they would be a top mid major team for the guys. The top girls would form a solid mid major team also.

Agree it depends on the coach. A lot of times the coach won't put "walk ons" on the team even if they are better than the guys he has recruited. A couple of years ago there was a guy at a big University in Texas who was as good at the guys at the bottom of the roster and he even beat one of the guys in a challenge match but he still didn't get on the roster. There is a lot of politics involved...this guy ended up playing club tennis instead.
