Some Danish football hooligans roll in and start causing trouble. They are here for Dedans birthday. Roligans? I don't thin so! Brawls are breaking out; tables and chairs are flying. The drunken hooligans begin singing "Happy Birthday."

    This is getting silly

Emma's tennis results the last week:

    Tournament: Skummeslövsspelen 2012
GS14: Lost in the semifinal (against Sofia Karlsson)

    Tournament: Kalmarspelen 2012
GS14: Lost in the semifinal (again against Sofia Karlsson)
    GD15: Won
    GS16: Won
    GD18: Won

    Tournament: USIF Sommarspelen 2012
    GS14: Won
GS16: ??? (Only two players - so kind of silly - match being played now, I think Emma has a good chance to win it - unless she's too tired from the two other matches she played today in GS14).

For a girl that basically quit tennis this winter that's... Pretty OK results I think! Both where fairly small tournaments but what the heck - wins are always good :)

I feel this is perhaps might be some cause for some free scotch whisky! Don't you think so too? Free scotch for all!!

Free whisky? Count me in! Also, well done, Emma!

Wow, there are beer bottles everywhere. The Danish football hooligans really had some party here. Where's the lemur?

Think I need to call a maid service, this place is beyond my abilities.

Mike, don't hit me, but I'm thinking I'm going to pick up some herring on my next trip to Ikea. I was thinking I would get the sour cream, the dill, and maybe the mustard one, or maybe the garlic one. Put it on a piece of rye bread. Is that the way for beginners to try it first time?

Of course, pickled herring is best taken from a bistro along with dill pickles and dark rye. It is then best enjoyed in a cab with Stolichnaya on the way home.

In Russia, herring on rye bread is often a very basic dish, served as an appetizer with many other dishes. There are many good Russian recipes for salads with pickled herring.

I would recommend the basic Danish smørrebrød, which is a buttered dark rye single piece of bread, pickled herrings (not too much), red onions, and fresh dill. Other ingredients, like capers, are often added. In Denmark, this is usually served with with other kinds of smørrebrød.

On its own, it might be a little dull, depending on the quality and freshness of the pickled herring. Using a little imagination is a good thing here.

Another option is to go the Midsommar route. I like to have small potatoes with sour cream and chives, and a Russian-style beetroot salad (not a traditional part of the meal, of course) with pickled herring.

I notice the last Danish football hooligan leave the Bistro. She was using the lemur as a pillow. He is pretty angry.

Im curious if anyone has heard a thing from the woman that owns this thing. It seems she has moved on to cooler people and left us in the dust.

This is a very good way to enjoy herring! Mayonnaise and eggs go very well with herring.

Congrats Mav! I have beer for the Bistro but it isn't cold yet. I also have some Stolichnaya for Mike, and some fleas for the lemurs.

When is the last time anyone cleaned the ceiling fan? I think I saw a seltzer bottle behind the bar...

I see that the lemur is enjoying a bowl of fleas while watching tennis in the lounge. People are afraid of discovering what is on the fan, or, more importantly, what is going on up there.

After taking a drink from my glass of Stolichnaya, I send another congratulatory beer to Mav. Why is ILC stealing one of the Bistro refrigerators? Did Dedans leave with the Danish soccer hooligans?

You (once again) are the cat's meow, Czar Bulgakov - a la the Rocky & Bullwinkle cool version of Boris Badenov -

As for moi, comely as they is, Im leaving those "Danish Butter Cookie" hooligans to you ..... me?, I'm opting for the exquisitely incandescent and ever so scrumpty-diddly-umptious Scottish Thistle .....

    sidebar:
Mike, as far as herring (or more commonly served, salmon) goes, growing up, was served on a platter with "black bread" with 'the fixin's' ..... chopped red onion, ooddles of fresh dill, chopped egg, capers, tiny slices of lemon, and maybe some horseradish along with a nice, tangy-sweet mustard. ... ah! .... those mini salmon-on-open-faced-black-bread sandwiches (with the fix'ins) together with (having come of age) an ice-cold flute o' a "brut" bubbly .... heaven on earth! ......

herring: simply put, nothing like a no-frills dish of pickled herring along with some boiled 'new' potatoes with butter & dill, black bread and (after a hefty "uber-belt" of vodka from the freezer), an ice-cold Karhu ..... "bear beer de la Suomi"

    Senti, (belated) thanks

I wasnt to sure either but I had pineapple for dessert so it was on the mind. Guess it could be rubbed on the skin for a sweet taste but make sure to cut it up first or that could be interesting.

Being the quoted is the only post i have read in this thread (legendary thread by post count) it is clear to me if i start from the beginning i will not leave my 'puter (yes ok, it's a mac) for days. And my family is not tolerant of such behavior.

May I simply jump in as a stranger? Are you tolerant of this behavior? I like you folks based solely on that one post. No ****. And not in a 'flattery will get you...' sort of thing.

    Thanks in advance. :)

Everyone is welcome at the Bistro. Just don't look up at the ceiling fan; you do not want to know what is going on up there. I have never heard of the Cackalacky South. Based on the term, it sounds like an interesting place.
