It is interesting how all those people were picking "One of the two Andy's to win the title" yet neither made it to the QF.

Also, don't fear the spoilers, there are 8,847 threads in GPPD about this already.

In that vein, Murray's slam results are pretty disappointing this year: R16, QF, SF, R16. That's not too impressive, considering his #2 ranking and the fact that he's been the pre-slam favorite for 2-3 slams this season.

I find it amazing that this guy keeps getting picked as a favorite for every slam, yet he has done absolutely nothing, has a game which is vulnerable to any attacking player, has not shown any fighting spirit and on top of that has really unlikeable court antics.

I guess beating Fed/Rafa in meaningless tuneup's is good enough these days? Murray doesn't have the game or the heart or the b*lls to compete in slams.

i dont understand how anyone could of said federer will not win this slam? he comes off winning two slams and has one this slam the last five times. murray is a hype job because he beats people in masters and smaller tournments but does not prove hes a top player in the slams. i just hope all the pundits knew fed would win but wanted to look smart and take a chance on someone else then federer

Agassi is a perpetual tool. I thought he was classy during the FO trophy presentation, but as usual it's ALL about Agassi. I'm so glad he finished #2 to Pete.

He's the idiot (perhaps the king among idiots) who picked Murray to win, and had such gems as -

"I don't believe that either Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer actually believes that they can beat Murray at the moment."

" I genuinely think he is the best player in the world at the moment - except on clay. You'd have to expect Nadal to win at Roland Garros, but for every other tournament who is going to be the favourite? It's got to be Murray."

    Simon Reid is a bit of a d-bag, I'd say :)

His articles are quite biased and there is little room for objectivity.
I am also looking forward to his next article.

Someone said on the comment box on the Eurosport website - Simon Reed on Australian Open 2010 'Murray's the man to beat!'

    :)

I have no doubt the hype machine will be back in action by AO 2010. Murray will beat Fed/Rafa once more in yet another non-slam match and will be the 'best player in the world'.

For the #2 player in the world to have that as his best slam result of the year is not pathetic, but it's disappointing, especially considering the fact that the #2s from years past have had stellar results at slams.

If a non-tennis fan were to read the press about Murray over the last year, and then compare it to actual results, they would probably conclude it was 2 different people :) You can't get more hyped than he was.

Some of the talking heads were comparing Murray to Safina in that he is number 2 without a slam.

Murray is over-hyped, but please don't say he can't win a slam because you never know. He has his whole career ahead of him to at least get one.

So did three others, and two of those actually won a GS. All that matters is #1, no one remembers #2.

The thing Simon fails to comprehend in that second URL, is that it doesn't matter whether Federer's at his very best. He was just so good at his best, that even at 80% of his prime best, Federer can still beat a 100% Murray in a Slam. Simon is obviously a big fan of Andy and is just looking for reasons why Murray CAN win. I don't mind that. I don't think he hates Federer, he just likes Murray a bit too much for a journalist.

That's not my point. My point is making the SF of a Grand Slam is a remarkable feat for anyone, whether your Roger Federer or John Isner.
