I have been hearing a lot the cap grommets on the new Head sticks. This might be a stupid question but what are cap grommets?? I thought after reading about the sticks that I might catch on but unfortunately that hasn't happened. Thanks in advance.

Cap grommets are like a shell around the outer racket from what ive seen. So they protect the racket from scratches. Also you can switch out the grommets for regular grommets if you can find them.

Thanks. so technically its just a grommet that extends to the throat of the racquet? If it is, it somewhat doesnt make sense.

CAP grommet not only covers the racquethead all the way around but also caps the string so that the string stays inside the outer cover of the CAP grommet.

The result is that both the frame and the string are better protected and you don't see the string around the outside the grommet (more aesthetically pleasing to some players).

The solid cap grommets are also nice for hiding and protecting lead tape. You might use lead tape and not want your opponent to know how much you are using where it is so you put it on the outside under the cap grommets where it will be protected and hidden.

Also C.A.P stands for Computer Aided Protection. HEAD started putting C.A.P Grommets on the Prestige Pro/TXP way back in 1986.

anyone know if the new white/clear cap grommets will fit the youtek version? i'd think so, because the racquets are practically identical.

Any tips on how to install a new set? Just doing a replacement on MGPP. Do they go on pretty easy? Any issues or prep that helps the job go more easy?

    Thanks all..

Hopefully the instinct has these, so I dont end up wrecking another three rackets after cleaning my shoes on court during matches

Start from the throat and work your way up to the head and use an awl to guide the grommets through the holes when it gets a bit difficult

I just replaced the caps on one of my Prestige Pro's.

They go on easily if you let the caps soak in some hot (not quite boiling) water. This makes them very pliable.

Keep a stringers awl handy as well.

I also used zip ties every 8" to keep the grommets snug. I strung the frame after the cap job was complete. Just cut the ties away as you string it.

I will try this method next time. Normally, I use a hair dryer to warm them up.
