What kinds of carbs should one eat before an important match and how long before?
pasta the night before. thats what I do. i go to Olive Garden or somthing like that

say you have a moring match, eat it for dinner. well, 12 hrs.

Carbs are carbs, rice, potatoes, pure cane sugar, whatever...
Actually it will provide you the best results in general if you eat a high protein meal the night before, like a steak, then eat some complex carbs about 2-3 hours before your match. You will have the energy you need and will be able to sustain it better as complex carbs break down much more slowly than simple carbs.
