My younger brother has been doing this for years as well.

He also brushes his teeth with bar soap (yes, I'm serious).

He told me why he does it a while ago. As I recall, he read that there is "bad" stuff in most toothpaste. I think it is the stuff that makes it taste good. He claims plain old cheap bar soap does a much better job cleaning and of course doesn't contain any of that bad stuff to make it taste good.

I think he said it took him about a week to get used to it and then it was fine.

agree about the toothpaste but wouldnt do the soap and yes cayenne is in all stores.

Best to take it in water with lemon with ice if you can and actually taste good.

Veddy interesting! Both cayenne and celery seed are also reported to reduce inflammation and provide relief from arthritis and other pain. Other anti-inflammatory spices include turmeric, ginger root, rosemary and holy basil (not to be confused with sweet basil).

Does he wear a tinfoil hat around the house, as well? :p

If I were to guess, the bad stuff would be fluoride.

In front of my computer, obviously
Baking soda is much better for brushing your teeth and doesn't taste like much of anything.

Bar soap can harbor bacteria on the surface since it spends most of the day in varying states of moisture. The ingredients that help keep it in bar form can be very irritating and drying to skin, not sure what they do to your mouth though.

Interesting thread - cayenne pepper is indeed unique and has many applications. It can kills germs and stimulate tissue. It's also great in combat - toss some in the eyes to induce temporary blindness, or sprinkle over your escape path to confuse pursuit dogs.

Always keep in mind the five "C"s of chili: chili powder, cayenne, cumin, coriander, and cinnamon.

That's one thing, but sweetener in most toothpaste is saccharine, even after Nutrasweet came out and replaced it in most diet drinks.

So, you take a known carcinogen and rub it into your gums every night. Great!! That's one of the reasons I switched to Toms of Maine.

I have used bar soap, too. Toothpaste cleans quicker, though. What I like about bar soap is that it doesn't give you that thick spit which makes me feel like crap. I would never switch to bar soap only. There was an old article where some guy argued that toothpaste can coat your teeth and inhibit re-mineralization. He argued that toothpaste took like 20 rinses to get it off your teeth, but bar soap could be washed clean in 2-5 rinses. I have found that to be true, but I think toothpaste cleans better.

^^ It means feeling comfortable observing and discussing issues that some are too inhibited and repressed to even notice.

Possibly. It could also be viewed as overly analytic or even self flattering if one assumes a different perspective .

There's actually some danger in taking cayenne for high blood pressure, as some do, and feeling satisfied that you've benefitted from it. A very good study published last year with 24 hour a day BP measurements showed that stroke risk corresponded better to NOCTURNAL hypertension than daytime hypertension. Cayenne can lower BP in some, but because it's half-life is only a few hours, depending on it to maintain a healthy BP would likely result in nocturnal BP elevation, as the cayenne effect wears off but BP medications typically have half-lives on the order of 12 to 24 hours.
